Dortmund are into the second round of the DFB Cup after a comfortable 5-0 win. Fifth-tier HEBC can hold their heads up high, however, after an impressive defensive display against one of Europe's top sides. BVB only scored once in the second half, in part due to some heroics from keeper Ahmann - who might just wake up tomorrow with a few extra Instagram followers. All things considered, both teams can be satisfied with tonight's outcome.

Dortmund lead 4-0 at the break, but that doesn't tell the full story of the half. Up until the 30-minute mark, HEBC defended brilliantly, frustrating the Dortmund attackers while also posing a threat on the counter. But the opening goal swung the momentum in BVB's favour, who have been clinical thanks to some excellent play from Inácio and Ryerson. As things stand, the visitors are cruising into the second round of the DFB Cup.

The youngster has been the best player on the pitch so far, and he gets his goal with a stroke of good fortune. The ball falls at the feet of Inácio from six yards out, whose drilled effort takes a deflection and goes straight through the HEBC keeper. Dortmund have a third goal, and with that, are surely in the hat for the next round.

Out of nowhere, HEBC catch Dortmund out on the counter. Schick charges down on the right wing and shoots from a tight angle, but Meyer is able to make a fairly comfortable save. That was an early warning for the Bundesliga side.

Head coach Kovač has made seven changes from the side that beat Hamburg on the opening weekend of the Bundesliga season. Meyer, Mané, Sabitzer, Albert, Inácio and Silva all come into the Dortmund starting XI, alongside new signing Veerman - who is making his full debut.

HSV to host

This game will not be played at HEBC's Professor-Reinmüller-Platz home, which has a capacity of 2,500. Instead, they will play host inside the 57,000-capacity Volksparkstadion - home of HSV, who Dortmund beat in the Bundesliga at the weekend. "That probably helps the Bundesliga team more than the fifth-tier team," Kovač said on Monday.

Konstantelias update

Kovač also provided an update on the summer signing's ACL injury from Saturday. "We need to wait for the operation. It was a shock for all of us. It had an impact on my team and also our fans. You could sense it in the stadium. He'll come back stronger - he believes that, we believe that. And we'll help him."

Kovač has confirmed that Alex Meyer will be in goal in place of Gregor Kobel. As for his outfield players, the 54-year-old explained, "We'll see how the guys who played at the weekend feel." Emre Can and Nico Schlotterbeck are still injured, joined now by Konstantelias, while Ramy Bensebaini is suspended for two games in the DFB Cup after his red card in the Supercup.

"We're the favourites. We want to go through. We'll have lots of possession, a lot of dominance. The opposition will sit deep and try to do something from counters or set pieces. It's on us to turn things our way as quickly as possible to we can advance to the next round."

Better late than never

Dortmund are kicking off their DFB Cup campaign over a week later than the rest of the Bundesliga - apart from Bayern Munich - due to their involvement in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on 22 August. Kovač's troops were beaten 2-1 by the Bavarians at Signal Iduna Park.

New arrival sidelined

Summer signing Konstantelias will play no part in Tuesday's tie, however, after being ruled out for several months with a torn anterior cruciate knee ligament. The Greece international suffered the injury early in the second half of Saturday's victory.

Serhou Guirassy and Giannis Konstantelias got the goals as Niko Kovač's side made a winning start to their Bundesliga campaign at Signal Iduna Park.

First appearance in 91 years.

HEBC play in the Oberliga Hamburg in the fifth tier of the German football pyramid. The club finished 13th in the league last season but qualified for the DFB Cup by beating Vorwärts-Wacker in the final of the regional Hamburg Landespokal. They last competed in the competition back in 1935.

Five-time winners

Dortmund last won Germany's domestic cup competition in 2021, when Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland scored two goals each in a 4-1 final victory over RB Leipzig at Berlin's Olympiastadion. BVB also lifted the trophy in 2017, 2012, 1989 and 1965.
