Tight affair

It is evenly poised in Jena as the Regionalliga side continue to fight tooth and nail against Darmstadt. Although the Bundesliga 2 side are ahead by one goal and had an immediate response to Löder's wonder strike, they cannot consider themselves safe just yet.

What a stunning goal!

WOW! With his back to goal, Löder brings down a high ball with outstanding technique, spins on the spot and hammers it from 35 yards into the top corner. All square!

Taking control

After a somewhat wild opening phase, Darmstadt have had everything under control since scoring, keeping possession and making the opposition chase the ball. Nevertheless, a second doesn't look close right now.

Orange happiness

Darmstadt celebrate breaking the deadlock.

The favourites are in front!

Jena has been on top, but Magdeburg still strike first. Smit is the goalscorer, making ground before hitting a powerful shot from distance into the bottom corner. A truly beautiful goal!

Close from Jena

Munser benefits from a mix-up by the Lilien, picks up the ball and shoots from a central position. However, his low shot lands just wide of the right post.

Head-to-head

There have been eight previous meetings between these two sides, although none have come in the cup. Darmstadt have a slight edge, winning on four occasions to Jena's three, with the last match-up coming in the 2011/12 3.Liga.

Jena cup history

A three-time East German Cup winner, Jena have had several strong runs in this competition despite managing just seven seasons in Bundesliga 2 since reunification. Five-time quarter-finalists, they were beaten by Borussia Dortmund in the 2007/08 semi-finals in what was their best result to date. Last season, they were beaten by Leverkusen in the first round.

Darmstadt's cup history

While they have played in this competition regularly down the years, Darmstadt have rarely made a deep run. In fact, their best performance was 40 years ago, when they reached the quarter-finals before succumbing to Hamburg, who went on to win the competition. Last term, their journey was ended by Freiburg in the last 16.
