Leipzig have started this half well, but that means very little now. Douvakis is fed the ball on halfway and he sends the ball spinning out to Paz on the right. Today also marked the start of the UEFA Youth League for Leipzig, where they drew 1-1 against Como. Samba Konaté opened the scoring for the German side, but Como fought back for a point.

A special gesture

Speaking of the venue, Como's President Mirwan Suwarso and several club executives have given up their seats for fans of the club born in 1950 or earlier ahead of tonight's sold-out game. "We want the seats to go to those who have waited the longest," Suwarso said.

The venue

Leipzig are set to play at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, Como’s picturesque home on the shores of Lake Como. Opened in 1927 and named after local Olympic rower Giuseppe Sinigaglia, it underwent major stadium redevelopment back in May of this year. The 'Curva Como' was demolished and rebuilt in reinforced concrete to meet UEFA requirements, increasing the stadium's capacity to 12,379 seats.

There are two players with a Bundesliga connection in the Como ranks: Marc-Oliver Kempf, who played for Eintracht Frankfurt, Freiburg, VfB Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin, and Yan Couto, who is on loan from Borussia Dortmund.

Head-to-head

Not only is this Como's first Champions League game, but they will also come up against a German team for the first time. Leipzig, meanwhile, have played Italian opposition on six occasions in the past, winning twice and drawing three.

Como's first UEFA adventure

Como will compete in a UEFA competition for the first time this season following their fourth-place finish in Serie A last term. This is just their third term back in the top flight following promotion, having spent the majority of their history in the second and third tiers in Italy.

Leipzig's last European campaign: 24/25

Leipzig failed to qualify for any of last term's three continental competitions, meaning they are making a return to Europe this season. In 2024/25, they endured a torrid Champions League campaign, losing each of their opening six games and seven out of eight in total in the league phase. That saw them end up 32nd out of 36 teams.
