Welcome to the Virtual Bundesliga International Series 2024
The VBL International Series 2024 is complete! Together with partner agency Apollo GG, we hosted participants from around the globe at the finals in Dortmund, which saw top eSports competitors from Brazil, USA, Thailand, MENA, Vietnam and India showcase their skills on the virtual pitch.
In a unique 2v2 format, regional winners were paired with a Bundesliga club, with a professional eSports player as their teammate alongside them in the Finals. The pairings were:
- Team USA x RB Leipzig
- Team India x FC Augsburg
- Team MENA x Bayer Leverkusen
- Team Brazil x VfB Stuttgart
- Team Thailand x Borussia Dortmund
- Team Vietnam x Werder Bremen
Ahead of the Finals, the regional champions were treated to a unique money-can’t-buy experience at their respective partner Bundesliga club. This included meeting club legends, taking part in football challenges, and tours of the clubs’ world-famous stadiums and training facilities. Throughout the trip, the finalists’ journeys were documented by top content creators, who, as well as playing alongside the regional winner, also captured every moment of the Finals; from landing in Germany to lifting the trophy.
Team MENA Emerges Victorious
The highlight of the event was a stunning performance from Team MENA x Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who took the title in a fiercely contested final. Featuring regional winner Mohannad Almesmari (@Mohannaduae14) playing alongside their teammates, Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s eSports Pro Sean Landwehr (@Sean.ldw) and content creator Ahmed Sabiri (@ahmedsaabiri), Team MENA were victorious against Team USA x RB Leipzig.
Team USA x RB Leipzig - represented by country winner Dylan (@adidafifa), RB Leipzig eSports Pro Lena Güldenpfennig (@rblz_lena) and content creator Joe Baena (@joebaena) - put on a great show but just couldn’t get it across the line in the final.
The Bundesliga Matchday Experience
After the VBL International Series Finals were complete, all attendees had the chance to experience one of world football’s greatest sights - seeing the famous Yellow Wall in-person at Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park.
In an emotional day, featuring Marco Reus’ final home appearance for the club, all participants were able to experience the famous German football atmosphere, bringing to a close a perfect weekend of football: both on the virtual pitch and in the stadium.
