Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller has been effusive in praise of his old side's development this season and is confident of the European chances of Vincent Kompany's charges.

Müller spoke about the record-breaking form that has seen Bayern race to the top of the Bundesliga table unbeaten before the winter break to German newspaper BILD, saying: "Bayern have had a great first half of the season. They’re not only playing spectacular football, but also working hard, fighting and showing desire. You can feel the togetherness. They've shown it at times when they've gone behind and battled back."

He added: "It’s fun to watch them play. I've tried to watch as many games as I could, despite the time difference."

When asked for a prediction for the rest of the season, the former Bayern and Germany institution said confidently: "They can make it to the Champions League final."

Müller has been back in Munich after the conclusion of his first MLS season as a Vancouver Whitecaps player in December, and was spotted in the Allianz Arena stands in Bayern's final home match before the winter break at home to Mainz on Matchday 14

He reflected on how much he has enjoyed playing in Canada, saying: "Football is not the number one sport in Canada. That's clearly ice hockey, which is like a religion. As footballers, we want to take our sport up a little level or two and get people excited about it, which we've managed step-by-step."

He added he is enjoying passing on tips to young players in the Whitecaps' squad and says he has no plans to retire just yet as he still gets a "buzz" from the challenges in the game.
