Hoffenheim striker Sargis Adamyan stunned the defending Bundesliga champions with his brace against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Matchday 7. A game he says he didn't even expect to start...

Speaking exclusively to bundesliga.com, Armenian international Adamyan discusses those two goals which sent shockwaves around the Bundesliga and the world of football, as well as his first months in Hoffenheim since joining from Jahn Regensburg and how he found his way to Germany...

bundesliga.com: The wins in Munich and against Schalke were unexpected. How has that influenced the team?

Sargis Adamyan: "It definitely gives us confidence. Especially the win in Munich mainly because we didn't play our best game. It gave us confidence and showed us that we can build on that performance. We proved it again against Schalke. That has spurred us on and I hope we'll go on."

bundesliga.com: You are a new recruit in Hoffenheim. The face of the team has changed and a new coach has also come in over the summer. Has it felt like a radical change for you?

Adamyan: "I wouldn’t call it a radical change. There are definitely a lot of new players. You need to get to know each other, which we have done. We need to give it time and work calmly to achieve the potential that we have in the team."

bundesliga.com: You made yourself known around the world with your two goals against Bayern. How was the reaction to your performance for you?

Adamyan: "It was definitely a nice moment. It was really fun to play there. To have won there as well was very important. The two goals: they were incredible. I don't think anyone expected that, including me. I tried to give everything, and I think it turned out quite well."

bundesliga.com: Can you talk us through your goals in the Allianz Arena?

Adamyan: "[Sebastian] Rudy wins back possession wonderfully for the first one. We wanted to push forward quickly. Dennis [Geiger] played the ball into me. I pull inside with my right foot and tried to put it through the legs of [Jerome] Boateng and into the net. The second. I think I started that attack. I played the ball into Robert [Skov], he passed the ball back. I knew I had to turn and shoot as quick as I could and so yes, the ball flew in!"

bundesliga.com: How were the reactions in Armenia after your stellar performance?

Adamyan: "The day after I flew back to Armenia for national team duty. They were all very happy for me. There were a lot of interview questions flying my way. It's great when the country you were born in takes an interest in your life and celebrates your achievements."

bundesliga.com: How were the reactions of your close friends and family?

Adamyan: "They were all very pleased for me. I arrived slightly injured. It took some time for me to get into the team. To have started against Bayern was already a surprise and then to also score two goals…"

bundesliga.com: How do you look back on your road to becoming a professional? It wasn’t always easy going. You went through teams such as Steinbach and Jahn Regensburg before arriving at Hoffenheim...

Adamyan: "Positively. I was in the development centre at Hansa Rostock. I received a good schooling. Turning professional didn't work out too well. I took a detour and started in the fourth division. I went on to Steinbach and Regensburg. In Regensburg, I was scouted and received a lot of confidence from everyone."

bundesliga.com: What was it like dealing with the struggles you went through on the way to becoming a professional footballer?

Adamyan: "I was still very young. I was simply enjoying playing football. It definitely didn't drag me down. I just continued doing what I was doing."

bundesliga.com: How was your childhood as an Armenian immigrant in Germany?

Adamyan: "I was very young. I was four-and-a-half years old when I came to Germany. For me, it was easy because I just went to school like anyone else and learned German. So for me, it was quite easy. When I was 14, I moved to the boarding school at Hansa."

bundesliga.com: Your dad owned a shoe factory in Armenia...

Adamyan: "He had a shoe factory which went bankrupt in 98. My aunt came to Germany two years earlier; to Bielefeld. She said it was nice there so we considered it and followed them over."

bundesliga.com: How important was becoming integrated into society at the age of four?

Adamyan: "No, it's true. Integration is very important. To be able to speak the language helps but I do get a sense in Germany that you can achieve anything."

bundesliga.com: How helpful was football in terms of this integration?

Adamyan: "Extremely helpful. Definitely. To be able to find a connection with people through football, to make new friends. It was very helpful."

bundesliga.com: What personal goals have you set yourself with Hoffenheim?

Adamyan: "I know I still have a lot to learn. I want to work hard every day and hopefully get the starts that I'm looking for."

Adamyan: "No, I really haven't thought about it. What is important for me is to continue developing and keep pushing. Whatever happens next, will come later."

bundesliga.com: What would your choice of career be were it not for football?

Adamyan: "I went through a course as an industrial salesman. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to complete it, however, I think I would've gone in that direction. I would definitely like to stay in the football community, however."

bundesliga.com: What celebrations do you do after scoring?

Adamyan: "I simply make a cross for my religion. It means a lot to me. I make a cross when I enter the stadium as well. It's something that I've always done and will continue to do."
