RB Leipzig sign striker Marc Guiu from Chelsea

RB Leipzig have competed the signing of highly rated Spanish striker Marc Guiu from Chelsea, boosting the club's attacking options.

With the closure of the summer transfer window fast approaching, the 20-year-old forward, capped for Spain at youth level, has put pen to paper on a five-year deal until 2031.

"Marc is a very good fit in the RB DNA with his intensity, tempo and incredible commitment. He has a lot of energy against the ball but is a presence in the box," said Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer.

"Despite only being 20, he's already played at the highest level and in the Champions League. We've been in contact for a while and closely followed him. We're pleased he's opted for RB Leipzig. We believe he can immediately help us with his quality and mentality, while still having great potential to develop further."

After coming through Barcelona's famed La Masia youth academy and making his debut for the senior team as a teenager, Guiu moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2024. Finding playing time hard to come by - outside of the UEFA Conference League, in which he hit the net six times - he joined fellow Premier League outfit Sunderland for the 2025/26 season, but was recalled after just three matches due to injuries in the Chelsea squad.

A couple of months later, the young Spaniard scored in the UEFA Champions League for the first time, in the London club's 5-1 win over Ajax.

Reflecting on his move to the Red Bull Arena, Guiu said, "This is exactly the right step for me. The club made a lot of effort for me and showed me a clear plan in our talks of what role I can have here.

"RB Leipzig keeps showing that they can develop players at the highest level. It is also an ambitious club with big goals in all competitions. I want to play my part there."

The technically proficient centre-forward, who will wear the No.9 shirt, will provide an alternative attacking option for Die Roten Bullen, who also recently welcomed back fan favourite Christopher Nkunku.

After kicking off their Bundesliga campaign with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, Martín Demichelis' charges will travel to Werder Bremen on Matchday 2 duties next weekend.
