Leipzig came into this match looking to maintain their perfect home record, having won all five of their Bundesliga matches at the Red Bull Arena this season. Despite sitting second in the table, Ole Werner's side were 11 points behind leaders Bayern Munich at kick-off and desperate to close the gap.
Frankfurt, meanwhile, had seen their early-season form drop in recent weeks, though they boasted fond memories of a 4-0 victory over Leipzig in their previous meeting last April.
Harder and Baumgartner put Leipzig in command
Leipzig wasted no time asserting their dominance, taking the lead after just five minutes. Christoph Baumgartner played a delightful chipped ball over the Frankfurt defence, and as Michael Zetterer hesitated when coming off his line, Conrad Harder headed the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.
Frankfurt responded with periods of pressure, and in the 31st minute, Mahmoud Dahoud struck the crossbar with a thunderous effort from 20 metres. However, Leipzig immediately countered, and Harder returned the favour to Baumgartner, who slotted home from close range to double the lead after a brilliant run and cutback from the Danish striker.
Diomande hat-trick completes demolition
Any hopes of a Frankfurt comeback were swiftly extinguished just two minutes into the second half. Antonio Nusa drove into the box before the ball fell to Diomande, who hammered a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
The Ivorian then doubled his tally in the 55th minute with a curling effort from the edge of the box after receiving the ball from Baumgartner.
Leipzig's dominance continued when Hugo Larsson handled in the box, allowing David Raum to convert the resulting penalty in the 62nd minute.
Just three minutes later, Diomande completed his hat-trick – becoming the second-youngest player to do so in Bundesliga history – when he rounded Zetterer after being played through by Nicolas Seiwald.
Man of the Match: Yan Diomande
Diomande delivered a masterclass in finishing, scoring a second-half hat-trick to help dismantle Frankfurt. Beyond his clinical finishing, the masked forward showcased his all-round ability throughout the match, completing impressive dribbles past multiple defenders and linking play effectively.
Diomande was particularly effective under pressure, escaping 70 percent of the 23 pressure situations he faced. His movement off the ball created constant problems for the Frankfurt defence, and his three goals from just four shots demonstrated remarkable efficiency.
