RB Leipzig see off Borussia Dortmund to get Marco Rose era off to a winning start
Goals from Willi Orban, Dominik Szoboszlai and Amadou Haidara secured a 3-0 win for RB Leipzig as new coach Marco Rose got the better of former employers Borussia Dortmund in his first game in charge.
RB Leipzig 3-0 Borussia Dortmund
Goals: 1-0 Orban 6' (assist: Szoboszlai), 2-0 Szoboszlai 45' (assist: Simakan), 3-0 Haidara 84' (assist: Werner)
The Rose era got off to the perfect start against his old club as they took a fourth-minute lead through Orban. Dortmund were on the attack themselves one minute, and on the back foot the next, as the jet-heeled Timo Werner won his side a corner on the counter-attack. From the subsequent set-piece, Orban headed routinely through a crowd of players and into the bottom corner to put his team in front. The visitors could muster just one first-half shot and were far from their best throughout the half, which ended with Szoboszlai firing a rocket into the top-corner from all of 30 yards.
After the interval, Dortmund were in need of inspiration as Leipzig continued to back off and challenge their opponents to do their worst. Edin Terzic's side, however, remained short on attacking ideas as the likes of Anthony Modeste and Marco Reus struggled to find any kind of rhythm. The arrival of Gio Reyna on the hour mark did see the American inject the skill and pace required to start breaking Leipzig's lines, but Dortmund struggled to do more than huff at the door of their hosts. Werner teed up Haidara to wrap things up with six minutes to go on a memorable day for Leipzig and a forgettable one for Dortmund.
