Leipzig welcomed Augsburg with both sides in contrasting form. The hosts had developed a reputation for surrendering leads this season, having failed to win seven different games in which they had gone ahead. However, they showed their fighting spirit last time out, coming from behind to win for the first time this season against Hamburg.
Meanwhile, Augsburg arrived as one of the Bundesliga's form sides, having lost just once in their past eight matches with Manuel Baum's influence clearly evident since his return to the dugout - this was his 100th competitive game in charge of the club.

Leipzig started the match on the front foot, with Christoph Baumgartner going close in the fifth minute, stroking a shot narrowly wide after good work from Castello Lukeba. The hosts continued to dominate possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances against a well-organised Augsburg defence.
The match's first talking point arrived midway through the half when VAR intervened after a handball by Baumgartner in the penalty area. Keven Schlotterbeck stepped up to take the resulting penalty, but Maarten Vandevoordt produced a spectacular diving save to tip the ball around the post. Despite this reprieve, Leipzig fell behind when Robin Fellhauer finished clinically from Fabian Rieder's cutback, sending the visitors into the break with a deserved lead.
Leipzig emerged for the second half with renewed purpose, immediately putting Augsburg under pressure. Baumgartner was denied by a fantastic Finn Dahmen save, before Lukeba hit the post with a header. Augsburg remained dangerous on the counter, with Rodrigo Ribeiro attempting a sublime backheel that narrowly cleared the crossbar.
Ultiamtely, the home side's persistence finally paid off when Diomande latched onto Conrad Harder's flick-on, outpaced Schlotterbeck and finished coolly past Dahmen. Ribeiro had a fantastic chance to restore his side's lead, but he hit the post and, as Leipzig pushed for a winner, they found it in dramatic fashion. Deep into stoppage time, David Raum's cross was inadvertently turned into his own net by Chaves to give the hosts a crucial win in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification.
Man of the Match: Yan Diomande
The Ivorian forward was the standout performer, delivering when his team needed him most. Diomande not only scored the crucial equaliser with a composed finish but was consistently Leipzig's most dangerous attacking threat. Statistics support his influential display, as he registered a match-high five shots while winning an impressive 24 challenges – more than any other player on the pitch.
His pace caused constant problems for the Augsburg defence, reaching a top speed of 33.81 km/h during the match. Beyond his goal, Diomande's overall contribution was exemplified by his passing efficiency (+1.73) and his resilience under pressure, withstanding 33 instances of being pressed – another match-high figure.
