Portugal into UEFA Euro 2024 last 16 as Group F winners with Türkiye win
Portugal beat Türkiye 3-0 in Dortmund to secure their place in the UEFA Euro 2024 round of 16 as Group F winners.
Türkiye 0-3 Portugal
Goals: 0-1 Silva 21’, 0-2 Akaydin (o.g. 28'), 0-3 Bruno Fernandes 55' (assist: Ronaldo)
Group F's top two after Matchday 1, Portugal and Türkiye contributed to a highly entertaining contest at the Signal Idua Park. Kerem Aktürkoğlu fluffed his lines from inside the six-yard box with the game's first meaningful chance, before Cristiano Ronaldo powered a header over at the other end. Pepe used all his experience to stop Orkun Kökçü racing in on goal with a crucial challenge that preceeded the first goal. Rafael Leão and Nuno Mendes combined, with Benardo Silva applying the finishing touch from inside the box to put Portugal ahead. A bizarre own goal made it 2-0 as Altay Bayındır was beaten by Samet Akaydin's costly no-look back-pass. Aktürkoğlu tested Diego Costa before the first half was up, but that was about as good as it got for Vincenzo Montella's side. Portugal made the points safe when Ronaldo selflessly set up Fernandes for a 55th-minute tap-in as the 2016 winners advanced to the last 16 as Group F winners. Türkiye can join them with a win over Czechia on Wednesday.
