Schalke secured promotion to the Bundesliga after beating Fortuna Düsseldorf at home on Matchday 32. They were confirmed as Bundesliga 2 champions the following day after Paderborn failed to beat Elversberg.

Promotion
Elversberg (59 points), Hannover (58) and Paderborn (58) are the three other teams in contention for promotion, with one automatic spot and the play-off position remaining.
- Elversberg will be promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time ever if they win in Düsseldorf on Sunday and both Paderborn (at home to Karlsruhe on Friday) and Hannover (away at Bochum on Saturday) lose
Play-off
- Elversberg will guarantee at least a top-three finish and a chance at the play-off for the second season running if they win in Düsseldorf and either Paderborn or Hannover lose

Safety
The current top 10 teams in Bundesliga 2 are all safe from relegation; Bochum in 11th cannot finish in the bottom two.

- They get a point off Hannover

- Eintracht Braunschweig fail to beat Dynamo Dresden
- Düsseldorf and Greuther Fürth both fail to win

Preußen Münster will go down this weekend if:
- They fail to win at home to Darmstadt on Sunday

Osnabrück secured their Bundesliga 2 return last weekend as champions of the 3. Liga.
Energie Cottbus, Duisburg, Rot-Weiss Essen, Verl and Hansa Rostock are all in with a chance of securing the second promotion berth or the play-off spot, but nothing can be decided on this penultimate matchday.
