RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann is confident his team will brush aside the disappointment of drawing at Wolfsburg on Saturday by beating Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

Die Roten Bullen hold a deserved 1-0 advantage from the first leg in London, courtesy of a Timo Werner penalty. In their first ever taste of knockout Champions League football, Leipzig menaced their hosts and should have had more to show for it with Werner and Patrik Schick both denied from excellent opportunities, with Spurs' goalkeeper Hugo Lloris named man of the match.

Their performance in London three weeks ago has given their 32-year-old coach enough encouragement to make him optimistic for the return at the Red Bull Arena, as he calls for more of the same.

"At the end, I hope we will start the game the same way like we did in Tottenham and then we've got a good chance to go in the next round," Nagelsmann told bundesliga.com.

Leipzig found it hard to create opportunities against Wolfsburg on Saturday, with Werner starting the game on the bench. As a result, they drew a blank for just the third time in the Bundesliga this season.

Tuesday night should be a more open affair, however, with Spurs needing to score at least one away goal, and this could suit Leipzig's gameplan – just as long as they pay attention.

"I think that they will defend the same way like in the previous match because they have to score goals," Nagelsmann said. "Perhaps we will get a bit more space to create our own goals, but it's important to defend the counter-attacks of Tottenham because they are very good at counter-attacks."
