Kevin Kampl opens up on life after football
Kevin Kampl has turned his hand to gardening at his Spanish home after retiring from professional football in January.
The former RB Leipzig midfielder mutually terminated his contract six months early and stepped away from professional football following the unexpected deaths of his father and brother.
"I have had a pretty s*** year – there is no other word for it. Life has to go on, even though it has been very difficult to accept everything that has happened. But the peace and quiet we have on Majorca has done us all a lot of good," he told Bild.
"We have honeydew melons, watermelons, tomatoes, onions, peppers and plenty more. They all grow like crazy here. The olive oil we make here tastes delicious."

A 28-time Slovenia international, Kampl spent the majority of his club career in Germany, representing Bayer Leverkusen, Greuther Fürth, Osnabrück, Aalen, Borussia Dortmund and Leipzig. He also enjoyed a successful spell with Austria's Red Bull Salzburg.
The now 35-year-old made 283 appearances for Leipzig following his summer 2017 move from Leverkusen, winning back-to-back DFB Cup titles in 2022 and 2023, and has kept the door open to a future involvement with the club.
"I always keep up to date with what RB Leipzig are doing, and I'll continue to do so," he said. "I will also be in the city a lot, so who knows what the future might bring."
