Mathys Tel has reaffirmed his commitment to Bayern Munich, the young French forward signing a contract extension through to summer 2029.

Tel, 18, has made 59 competitive appearances for Bayern since making the switch from Stade Rennes in July 2022. The France U21 international has scored 13 goals, including seven in 31 games so far in 2023/24. He is widely regarded as one of the most exciting forwards in Europe.

"We're delighted that Mathys Tel has extended his contract with Bayern," said the club's new board memeber for sport, Max Eberl. "He's an important foundation for the future of this team. With him, we already have the next Bayern generation in our squad. Mathys arrived in Munich as a young player and, at the age of 18, has already gained a lot of important experience at the top level. He will lay down many markers, here at Bayern."

Tel added: "This contract extension means a lot to me. I've already learnt a lot at Bayern, both on and off the pitch. Munich has become a home for me and my family, and the fans are also very important to me. I can't be the player I am without them. When you play for Bayern, you always want to win every trophy. I want to score and set up goals, play with heart and energy for Bayern, and give everything for this club and its fans."

The teenager - who turns 19 in April - will have the chance to add to his nine goals and three assists in 42 Bundesliga games when Bayern host relegation-threatened Mainz on Saturday. He ranks as the record champions' youngest-ever scorer, having hit the back of the net two months into his Bayern career in a DFB Cup match against Viktoria Cologne, aged 17 years and 126 days.
