Bayer Leverkusen sign Real Madrid legend Lucas Vázquez
Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Real Madrid legend Lucas Vázquez.
Vázquez, 34, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal valid until 30 June 2027. He brings a wealth of experience to the Leverkusen squad, having made more than 400 appearances in 10 seasons with Real’s first team, which included winning four La Liga titles and five UEFA Champions Leagues.
“With Lucas Vázquez, we are signing an extremely experienced player who has won everything there is to win with Real Madrid,” said Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes.
“He’s technically strong, tactically adept, an excellent assist provider and strategist. Lucas will have a major influence on our game and become a pillar of our team.”
The versatile Vázquez, who can play on the wing or at centre-back as well as his preferred position at right-back, is far from the first Madridista to join Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso, who oversaw an undefeated Bundesliga triumph in 2024, played a part in his move.
“I’m looking forward to continuing my journey at Bayer Leverkusen, at the club that coach Xabi Alonso and my long-time teammate Dani Carvajal told me a lot about in Madrid,” he said.
“My discussions with the management have confirmed what I’ve been told: Bayer are absolutely win-oriented, hungry, and focused on the highest goals. This attitude aligns with my expectations, and I look forward to striving for further success with Leverkusen.”
