Augsburg head coach Jess Thorup signs contract extension
Jess Thorup has extended his contract a Augsburg head coach until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, the club have confirmed.
Thorup, who joined Die Fuggerstädter in October 2023 when he replaced Enrico Maaßen, originally signed a deal that would keep him at the WWK Arena until June 2025.
However, after steering Augsburg from 15th in the table after seven games to the brink of European qualification - ultimately falling short by just three points - the 54-year-old Dane has been rewarded with a 12-month extension.
Speaking upon the announcement, Augsburg CEO Michael Ströll said, "We’re really pleased to have extended his contract. Jess is ambitious, fully identifies with our club philosophy and with FCA overall."
"Parts of that mean working closely with our own academy and developing players. We’ve had some really positive and valued conversations in recent weeks, and believe that we can continue to drive FCA forward together."
Thorup, meanwhile, added, "I'm delighted to extend my contract with FC Augsburg. I felt at home here right from the start and the impression I was left with is that FCA are a very family-oriented, yet ambitious, club."
"I greatly enjoy getting to work closely with the players, management team and the backroom staff, as well as our close relationship with the fans. I continue to see enormous potential within the squad and will continue to do everything I can to contribute to the positive and sustainable growth of the club."
After two games of the 2024/25 campaign, Augsburg currently have one point, while they defeated Viktoria Berlin in the first round of the DFB Cup. They next host St. Pauli on Sunday (kick-off: 3.30pm CEST).
