Janis Blaswich completes move to Bayer Leverkusen from RB Leipzig
Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of goalkeeper Janis Blaswich from Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig.
The arrival of Blaswich follows Lukáš Hrádecký's move to Monaco. The 34-year-old is expected to provide cover for Netherlands international Mark Flekken, who joined Leverkusen from Brentford earlier in the summer and is set to be new head coach Erik ten Hag's No.1.
Blaswich, who made 64 first-team appearances during a three-year spell at Leipzig, has signed a contract through to summer 2027.
"In addition to his individual quality, Janis brings a great deal of international experience to the table. We're delighted we were able to complete this first-class transfer," said Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes.
Blaswich moved to Leipzig on a free from Heracles Almelo in 2022 and was initially the club's second-choice goalkeeper before losing out on that position to Maarten Vandevoordt ahead of 2024/25.
The German also had spells as Leipzig's No.1 between 2022 and 2024 as Péter Gulácsi struggled with injuries, but spent last season on loan in Austria at RB Salzburg.
"To now play for Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the best club in my home region [of North Rhine-Westphalia] and one of the best in Germany, is just amazing," the veteran stopper said. "I'm absolutely thrilled about what lies ahead."
