Jamal Musiala marked his first Bayern Munich start since July with the opening goal before Ismael Saibari equalised for the hosts, but Harry Kane was on hand to fire Vincent Kompany’s men to a seventh UEFA Champions League win in eight matches to secure second, giving them home advantage in the knockout rounds.

Bayern Munich arrived in Eindhoven with their place in the Champions League round of 16 already secure, but still aiming to cement second place in the league phase. Vincent Kompany's men were looking to bounce back after suffering their first Bundesliga defeat of the season against Augsburg at the weekend.

For PSV, the stakes were higher as Peter Bosz's side needed a result to secure a place in the knockout stage play-offs.

The match featured several interesting subplots, with former Bayern youngster Paul Wanner starting for PSV and Musiala making his first start for Bayern since returning from injury.

Goalless first half despite chances

The first half was an entertaining affair despite ending goalless. PSV started brightly with Ivan Perišić testing Jonas Urbig early on.

The visitors gradually found their rhythm with Musiala looking lively on his return to the starting lineup. Bayern's Tom Bischof came close with a free-kick that struck the crossbar, while Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović both tested PSV keeper Matěj Kovář from distance.

Urbig was the busier of the two goalkeepers, making impressive saves to deny Sergiño Dest and Perišić as PSV finished the half strongly.

Musiala breaks the deadlock

The breakthrough came in the 58th minute when Bayern's young stars combined beautifully.

Bischof won possession before finding Lennart Karl, who drove forward into the PSV half. Karl then played a clever one-two with Musiala, who found space in the box before firing into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

It was a clinical finish from the 21-year-old on his first start since returning from injury.

Saibari's stunning equalizer

PSV refused to give up and found a spectacular equalizer in the 78th minute through Ismael Saibari. The midfielder played a neat one-two with Guus Til on the edge of the area before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner, giving Urbig no chance.

The Philips Stadium erupted as the hosts sensed they might get the result they needed to progress in the competition.

Kane secures the points

Bayern's quality ultimately told in the 84th minute when Kane restored their lead. Luis Díaz, who had been a threat throughout, provided the assist with a precise cross that found Kane in space.

The England captain made no mistake, firing high into the roof of the net for his eighth Champions League goal of the season.

PSV's hopes of a comeback were dealt a further blow in stoppage time when Mauro Júnior received a second yellow card for a foul on Olise.

Bayern saw out the remaining minutes to secure the win and second place in the Champions League league phase, while PSV were eliminated from the competition.
