Harry Kane reveals NFL desire
Bayern Munich star Harry Kane has revealed his interest in becoming an NFL kicker later on in his professional career.
Kane, who is currently away with England on international duty, has long been known as a big American football fan, with legendary quarterback Tom Brady cited as one of his inspirations.
Now, speaking to the media in his homeland, he has expressed an interest in moving into another sport once his career in football winds down. “That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously,” he said when asked. “It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do."
Kickers play a smaller role in American football, entering the field only for field goals, kick-offs, safety kicks and extra points. As such, Kane's skill-set would be well-suited to the position. “I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure and technique,” Kane explained. “If I did that, in terms of training, I would be closer to that more than to any other sport.
"But as I know, with all elite sports, when you watch it on TV, people make it look easy, and you think it is possible, but that is not always the case. If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take six months to a year to try and practice before.”
Kane, though, added that this is not something he is contemplating in the immediate future. "It is in the back of my mind because right now, I am feeling that I want to play as long as I can here.”
