Max Eberl discusses futures of Manuel Neuer and Harry Kane at Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich’s board member for sport Max Eberl has provided an update on the ongoing contract situations of senior stars Manuel Neuer and Harry Kane.
After successfully securing the services of central defender Dayot Upamecano until 2030 on a new deal on Friday, Bayern and Eberl are looking ahead to the summer.
With club captain Neuer's contract set to expire at the season's end, speculation over whether this campaign could be the legendary German custodian's last in Bayern's colours had gathered momentum in recent weeks.
Intent on setting the record straight, Eberl revealed in an interview with German sports broadcaster Sport1: "It’s about how Manuel feels; whether he wants to continue and believes he can maintain his level for another year. At nearly 40, he’s still one of Europe’s top goalkeepers, but the first person you have to speak with is Manuel."
"He has to keep performing at the top level, which he currently is," he added.
Watch: Neuer still setting the goalie standard

At 39, Neuer is continuing to trailblaze the gold standard of goalkeeping, having conceded just 27 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions in 2025/26, keeping nine clean sheets in the process.
This campaign has also seen the once Schalke academy graduate etch his name deeper into Bayern history. Neuer's appearance in the Matchday 17 victory away to Cologne allowed the shot-stopper to leapfrog German football legend Franz Beckenbauer into fifth place for most appearances for the club.
In a separate interview this past week, Eberl also addressed the contract situation of star striker Kane, who will be entering the last year of his current deal come next season.
Speaking in Bayern’s pre-match press conference ahead of their 2-0 DFB Cup quarter-final victory over RB Leipzig, Eberl confessed: "We are talking, that doesn't mean negotiations have started. We are in intensive talks with Harry, then the next steps will follow.
"I can't comment on the rumours circulating that someone is preparing anything. All I can say is that we are in close contact with Harry regarding him and our success."
The Englishman has been prolific in Germany, scoring 126 goals in 131 games for Bayern, including a 26-goal Bundesliga haul this campaign that makes him the outright top domestic league goalscorer in Europe.
