Borussia Dortmund's Gio Reyna and Bayern Munich's Chris Richards have both been rewarded for their impressive displays in breaking into senior club football with first call-ups to Gregg Berhalter's USMNT roster for the team's upcoming friendlies against Wales and Panama in the November international break.

The duo are among five Bundesliga-based players in Berhalter's 24-man squad, alongside RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams, Wolfsburg centre-back John Brooks and Werder Bremen striker Josh Sargent, while Wolfsburg-owned attacking midfielder Ulysses Llanez is on loan at Dutch side Heerenveen.

Reyna has become a first-team regular at Dortmund this season, starting five of the team's six Bundesliga matches so far, while also scoring his first top-flight goal and becoming the youngest player in league history to register three assists in a single game.

His inclusion in the senior national team set-up has been a long time coming. Back in February this year Berhalter confirmed that the 17-year-old would be in his next squad, scheduled for March, only for the coronavirus outbreak to postpone the camp.

Reyna was born in England, but has represented the USA at youth level, making 16 appearances for the U17s and even captaining the side the the FIFA U17 World Cup last year.

Richards, meanwhile, made his Bundesliga debut at the end of last season and was a regular in Bayern's matchday squads in the early part of 2020/21 until a calf injury sustained on his first start against Hertha Berlin kept him out of action for a couple of weeks.

The 20-year-old was an unused substitute in the Matchday 6 victory over Cologne at the weekend, and his inclusion has also been in the works for some time.

"I've had talks with Gregg," the 20-year-old said recently. "He's always asking how I'm doing off the field, if I'm healthy. Just being able to represent my country at the highest level would be an amazing on honour for me. It's something I've always wanted to do."

The USA face Wales in Swansea on 12 November, in what will be their first game since Llanez scored on his senior international debut in a 1-0 victory over Costa Rica at the start of February. They will take on Panama four days later in Vienna.
