RB Leipzig appoint Tatjana Haenni as new CEO
RB Leipzig have found their replacement for the vacant position of CEO following Oliver Mintzlaff’s departure, with Tatajana Haenni set to assume the role from 1 January 2026, thereby becoming the first woman to hold the post of CEO at a Bundesliga club.
Haenni is a former player who made 23 appearances for her native Switzerland. The 59-year-old has also held adminstrative roles at UEFA, FIFA and the Swiss Football Association.
“We are extremely pleased to have been able to appoint Tatjana Haenni as a strong leader in the position of CEO at RB Leipzig. In our discussions, she impressed us and the committees with her expertise, as well as her combination of specialist knowledge, leadership strength and strategic thinking. We expect that she will provide new input and fresh impetus, helping us to remain well-equipped for the future and continue to meet rising demands," explained Mintzlaff, Chair of the Supervisory Board.
For her part, Haenni declared: “I am very much looking forward to this new role and to working with Johann Plenge, Florian Hopp, Marcel Schäfer, as well as all employees. My discussions with the club’s leadership were marked by trust and appreciation, and I am convinced that with strong teamwork and a focus on RB Leipzig’s strengths, we can tap into significant potential."
With this appointment, Leipzig have set out their ambition to continue consolidating the future of the club with an expanded leadership structure. Haenni will head the Leipzig management alongside Johann Plenge (business), Florian Hopp (administration), and Marcel Schäfer (sport).
In addition to Haenni's appointment, as part of the new structure, Plenge (40) will take on the role of deputy chair of the management board. Alongside his existing business responsibilities, Plenge will now also oversee the areas of national and international federation and league relations for Leipzig.
Founded in 2009, Leipzig gained promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016. They've since won two DFB Cups and lifted the 2023 Supercup, whilst also reaching the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
