Eintracht Frankfurt sign Nigeria international midfielder Raphael Onyedika

Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the signing of Nigeria international midfielder Raphael Onyedika, who has joined from Club Brugge and signed a contract until June 2031.

Frankfurt's board member for sport Markus Krösche said: "Raphael Onyedika has not only impressed us with his physicality and strategic understanding of the game, but above all with his extraordinary consistency. At 25, he still has great potential and is an important building block in terms of the structure of our squad.”

Onyedika joined Brugge in 2022 from Danish side Midttjylland and instantly established himself as the side's first-choice defensive midfielder. In the four years since, he has become a two-time Belgian Jupiter Pro League champion, and racked up 24 appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

His displays for Brugge led to a first Nigeria cap in late 2022. Since then, Onyedika has gone on to play 26 times in total for The Super Eagles, scoring three goals.

The 25-year-old will now look to establish himself in Frankfurt's talented midfield and help Adi Hütter's side return to the Champions League.

Onyedika's first chance to impress in competitive action for his new side may come in the DFB Cup, as Frankfurt are to take on fifth-tier side St. Tönis in the first round of the competition on 21 August.

Their Bundesliga opener comes away at Union Berlin on Saturday 29 August (kick-off: 3.30pm CEST).
