Borussia Mönchengladbach sign Japan's Daiki Hashioka on loan
Borussia Mönchengladbach have signed Daiki Hashioka on a season-long loan from Czech champions Slavia Prague, with the deal including an option to buy the Japan international.
"Daiki is quick, strong in the air and an aggressive defender. He can operate primarily at right-back or as a right-sided centre-back," said Gladbach sporting director Rouven Schröder. "He also brings plenty of experience, and we're confident he'll quickly prove an asset to the team."
Hashioka came through the ranks at Urawa Red Diamonds, where he won the Emperor's Cup in 2018, before spells with Sint-Truiden and Luton Town. On the Slavia books since summer 2025, the 27-year-old also spent the second half of last season on loan at Gent. He is a 12-time Japan international.
"When my agent told me Borussia were interested, I was delighted," said Hashioka, who will wear the No.14 shirt at Gladbach. "I knew straight away that I wanted to move here, and I'm really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Bundesliga."
Hashioka is the third Japanese player in the current Gladbach ranks, alongside striker Shuto Machino and fellow summer signing Zento Uno. He could make his Bundesliga debut when the Foals visit RB Leipzig on Matchday 1 of the new campaign (29 August).
