Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Jens Castrop faces spell on sidelines
Borussia Mönchengladbach will be without Jens Castrop for several months after the South Korea international suffered an injury during the Foals’ 15-0 friendly win over Rottach-Egern.
The 23-year-old dislocated his shoulder, and further examinations show that surgery is required.
“It’s sad news for all of us,” said head of sports Rouven Schröder. “We’re now hoping the operation and his recovery go as smoothly and quickly as possible so that Jens can get back to competing for a place in the team and helping us on the pitch.”
Castrop played 29 Bundesliga matches for Gladbach in 2025/26, returning three goals and providing one assist as Eugen Polanski’s outfit staved off relegation.
Castrop was part of South Korea's squad at the 2026 World Cup. He was an unused substitute in their first two Group A games against Czechia and Mexico, but played 45 minutes in the team's third match against South Africa.
Gladbach start the new campaign away to Schott Mainz in the DFB Cup first round before facing RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena a week later.
