Germany legend Alexandra Popp to join Borussia Dortmund's women's team
Borussia Dortmund's women's team has pulled off a major transfer coup with the signing of former Germany captain Alexandra Popp from Wolfsburg.
The 34-year-old striker will move to BVB after 14 years in Wolfsburg, where she won not only seven league titles but also the UEFA Women's Champions League twice. She has signed a contract until 2029.
“I experienced an incredible amount during my many years at Wolfsburg," Popp said. "I was able to win a lot of titles and play a role in the club’s development. It was a very exciting and eventful time.”

Dortmund's women's team currently sit in second place in the 'Regionalliga West', meaning it is not yet clear whether Popp, who also won a gold medal at the 2016 summer Olympics, will be playing in the second or third tier next season.
“That was obviously also something I thought about," Popp continued. "The second division, the Regionalliga – that’s obviously a big difference compared to the first division and the Champions League, where I was playing this year.
“But it was also clear to me that if I decided to do this, then I'd have to embrace everything that comes with it – and I want to embrace everything. I don’t want any special treatment; I’m fully committed. I’ve decided to take it all on, and that includes steps like these.
“I’ve always been open about the fact that I’m a Dortmund fan. I don’t want to miss the chance to play in a Borussia Dortmund shirt. My heart belongs to this club, and that’s why I decided to join Dortmund.”
