Borussia Dortmund confirm loan signing of Aarón Anselmino from Chelsea
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of centre-back Aarón Anselmino from Chelsea on a season-long loan.
The 20-year-old will wear the No.28 shirt during his spell at the Signal Iduna Park and provides cover in defence.
"Given the injuries to Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle, we've been forced to readjust in the centre-back positions," explained Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken.
"Aarón already has top-level experience in his homeland and has great potential. There's a reason Chelsea gave him a really long-term contract last summer."
"We were watching Aarón during his time at Boca Juniors. He's a very good solution in our current situation," added sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
"He's a talented player who's proven his qualities already at a young age in very heated stadiums. We'll now quickly integrate him because we need him immediately."
The Argentine defender joined Chelsea from Boca in his homeland in the summer of 2024, initially spending six months on loan back at his boyhood club before moving to London in January this year.
Having struggled for minutes during the first few months at his new club, he made his debut in the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 victory over Benfica as Chelsea went on to win the trophy.
Anselmino is Dortmund's fourth major new arrival of the transfer window after Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland, Patrick Drewes from Bochum and the returning Carney Chukwuemeka, also from Chelsea on a permanent deal.
Speaking of his move to the Bundesliga, the defender himself said: "I'm really excited about Borussia Dortmund and will give my all for success with this great club and its great fans."
Dortmund, who kicked off their league campaign with a 3-3 draw at St. Pauli, could hand Anselmino his debut when they host Union Berlin on Matchday 2 this weekend.
