Borussia Dortmund's Giannis Konstantelias undergoes successful ACL operation
Borussia Dortmund's Giannis Konstantelias has undergone a successful operation following the ACL injury he suffered on Matchday 1 of the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign against Hamburg.
Konstantelias had doubled Dortmund’s lead in first-half stoppage time against HSV, but had to be taken off early in the second period after twisting his left leg awkwardly in the turf.
BVB subsequently confirmed that the 23-year-old, who joined Borussia from PAOK during the summer transfer window, had torn his cruciate ligament, with managing director Lars Ricken saying, "This news hits us hard, because Giannis has already shown in a very short time why we see him as a great player for Borussia Dortmund."
Now, though, the Greece international has undergone a successful operation, with his doctor Thore Zantrop sharing an image of the midfielder on his Instagram page.
While Konstantelias will still be out of action for several months, he can at least now start the road to recovery and get back onto the pitch as soon as possible.
In his absence, Dortmund have picked up positive results, defeating HEBC in the DFB Cup, coming from behind to beat Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, before kicking off their UEFA Champions League term with a win over Villarreal.
Dortmund are next in action against Paderborn on Saturday.
