Borussia Dortmund's Niklas Süle suffers fresh injury setback
Niklas Süle will miss the start of the 2025/26 season through injury, Borussia Dortmund have confirmed.
Süle was taken off in the first half of Dortmund's pre-season defeat to Juventus on Sunday. Subsequent medical tests revealed a calf problem that will require a spell on the sidelines of around two months.
The 29-year-old, who has been beset by injury troubles since joining BVB from Bayern Munich in summer 2022, joins centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck and defensive specialist Emre Can in the treatment room.
Dortmund begin the new campaign with a DFB Cup first-round trip to Rot-Weiss Essen on 18 August. Niko Kovač's side face St. Pauli in their Bundesliga opener five days later.
The Black-Yellows finished fourth in last season's Bundesliga, before reaching the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup earlier this summer, losing to Real Madrid.
