Bayern Munich to play at NFL club Kansas City Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium on USA summer tour
Record German champions Bayern Munich will play a friendly at NFL club Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium as part of their summer 2019 USA tour, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt has revealed.
"Bayern are going to play at the Arrowhead Stadium," Hunt told German daily Bild. "They're a global brand. They position their world stars perfectly to promote the band. I'm really happy."
The exact details of who Bayern will play will be announced on the club’s website, fcbayern.com, on 27 March.
The Hunt family also own Major League soccer outfit FC Dallas, who entered into an Elite Player Development Partnership with Bayern in 2018, with a view to unearthing the next American soccer star.
Chris Richards was the first to benefit from the agreement. The 19-year-old defender completed a ten-day trial at the Bayern youth campus earlier in 2018, but has since become a permanent member of the club after impressing during his temporary stint in Germany.
"The partnership has been going a while now, and it's going really well," Hunt said. "Hopefully players from Bayern will come to play at Dallas in the future. We can also help find South American players, who can play in Dallas, before moving to Munich."
Making a splash on both sides of the Atlantic
Bayern’s North American presence has been further bolstered in recent months by the acquisition of Real Salt Lake teenager Taylor Booth, as well as Canadian winger Alphonso Davies, who scored his first Bundesliga goal on 17 March, following his winter transfer from Vancouver Whitecaps.
Bayern’s summer 2019 tour is their fourth on US soil since 2014. The Bavarian giants will also compete in the International Champions Cup, having faced Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Manchester City at last year’s tournament.
