Robin Fellhauer scores fastest goal in Bundesliga history as Augsburg and Bayern Munich draw thriller

Bayern Munich were unable to capitalise on Borussia Dortmund dropping points on Friday night as they were held by a resilient Augsburg, who took the lead through Robin Fellhauer in less than nine seconds. Ismael Saibari then levelled before Rodrigo Ribeiro and Nathaniel Brown exchanged goals, leading to a thrilling derby finishing 2-2.

After Dortmund's 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen, Bayern were keen to move to the top of the table, with Vincent Kompany opting for just one change from the side that thrashed Union Berlin before the international break. Saibari replaced Jamal Musiala, who had picked up an injury whilst on international duty with Germany.

Augsburg, meanwhile, made four changes from their last game, with Juma Bah making his club debut and Youngwoo Seol his first Bundesliga start.

Record-breaking start

Augsburg could hardly have dreamt of a better opening. Bayern kicked off, the ball was returned to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, whose attempted dink over the onrushing Robin Fellhauer failed, and Fellhauer raced through to score the fastest goal in Bundesliga history.

Bayern responded with sustained possession and chances through Harry Kane and Michael Olise, but Augsburg's defence held firm.

Bah then somehow fired over from close range after a goalmouth scramble for Augsburg, before Kane struck the crossbar from Aleksandar Pavlović's cross in the last action of the half, leaving Augsburg ahead at the interval.

Momentum swings both ways

Bayern pressed for an equaliser after the restart, and Kane set up Ismael Saibari to level in the 55th minute after a Luis Díaz effort was ruled out moments earlier for offside.

Augsburg hit straight back: Calvin Brackelmann's low effort was parried by Neuer into the path of Ribeiro, who tapped home to restore the hosts' lead in the 64th minute.

Bayern then had two more goals chalked off for offside before Brown finally made it count, finishing from close range in the 80th minute after Kane and Pavlović had combined down the left.

Serge Gnabry then struck the post, and Finn Dahmen produced further saves as the match ended level.

Man of the Match: Harry Kane

Kane was named Man of the Match, taking 31 per cent of the vote. He set up both Bayern's goals, had further attempts saved or blocked, and struck the crossbar in the first half. His link-up play repeatedly created the chances that pulled Bayern back on level terms twice.
