Bayern Munich sign Germany's Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt

Germany defender Nathaniel Brown has joined Bayern Munich from Bundesliga rivals Eintracht Frankfurt.

At just 23, Brown emerged as Germany's starting left-back at the FIFA World Cup 2026. He has signed a five-year deal through to 30 June 2031.

"Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world. It means so much to me to have the chance to play for this club and it fills me with pride," Brown said of his move.

"I’ve always dreamed of playing for the biggest titles at the highest level; I set myself the highest goals and want to get the maximum out of me every day. I quickly had a great feeling in talks with the management. Vincent Kompany in particular showed me how he sees me and my development and absolutely convinced me.”

Brown spent two full seasons at Frankfurt, having made the step up from Bundesliga 2 outfit Nuremberg in summer 2024. The German-American made 75 competitive appearances for the Eagles, registering seven goals and 13 assists. He has won eight senior Germany caps since debuting under Julian Nagelsmann in October 2025, scoring his first international goal in the 7-1 win over Curaçao.

"We’re delighted to have brought a player to Bayern in Nathaniel who’s enjoyed such a rapid development but still has so much potential and is one for the future. He made his mark at the World Cup and showed why we’ve been looking at him for a while. He’ll expand our options in both defence and midfield," stated Bayern's board member for sport, Max Eberl, of the new arrival.

Club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen added: "Nathaniel has a profile that is very much in demand in modern football. We all believe he’s an excellent fit for Bayern. This transfer also underlines our aspiration to bring top young German players to Bayern early. That’s always been a part of our DNA and should remain the case in the future."

Brown will add competition at left-back for Alphonso Davies, who struggled with injuries in 2025/26. Head coach Kompany has also used Tom Bischof, Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić in the position, despite it not being their natural role.

The Bavarian native could make his competitive debut for Bayern when the 2025/26 domestic double winners face Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on 22 August, before beginning their Bundesliga title defence a week later at home to VfB Stuttgart.
