Bayern Munich release special 125th anniversary jersey
On 27 February, Bayern Munich celebrated the 125th anniversary of their foundation, and to mark the occasion they have released a special jersey.
A century-and-a-quarter ago, the 11 founding members created the club at Munich's Café Gisela and, 33 German championships and six European Cups/UEFA Champions League later, it is fair to say it has been a resounding success.
On this special date in Bayern history, it is only right that the club have pulled out all the stops with this special jersey. And the Gisela is just one of several special features on the commemorative top, which was first worn by Bayern's men team against Bochum ahead of the women's side doing the same a week later against Wolfsburg.
A traditional red with golden branding, the lifestyle adidas Originals logo is embroided rather the usual three stripes - fitting in with the launch motto "Creating Originals since 1900 - 125 years of FC Bayern’ - while the anniversary crest incorporates elements from the founding charter, the shape of the coat of arms and the Bavarian laurel wreath.
Amongst the details are a host of Bayern legends superimposed in front of a replica of Bayern's birthplace, such as Uli Hoeneß, Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben. They are joined by modern stars such like Thomas Müller, Jamal Musiala and Giulia Gwinn of Bayern's women's team.
Last year saw the passing of the incomparable Franz Beckenbauer, and it was only right that his legacy be remembered. As such, the top will include a special No.5 in honour of Der Kaiser after members voted to retire the number at the recent annual general meeting.
A special sleeve badge that combines all of Bayern's titles is optional, with proceeds going to club charity FC Bayern Hilfe eV. As part of the release, fans will have the chance to win an Audi A1 based on the jersey's design. Get yourself to FC Bayern Stores and the FC Bayern Online Store if you want to get your hands on one!
