He was by no means the only Bayern Munich player to impress in Saturday’s memorable 6-2 victory over Freiburg, but Lennart Karl continued his remarkable start to life in the Bavarians’ first team by setting yet another record on Matchday 11.

The 17-year-old netted Bayern’s first of the afternoon against Julian Schuster’s side at the Allianz Arena, showing magnificent composure to control Michael Olise’s pass and fire past Noah Atubolu to reduce the arrears after Freiburg had taken a surprise 2-0 lead.

Karl then turned provider on the stroke of half-time, teeing up Olise to send the Bundesliga leaders into the break on level terms.

That assist made Karl the youngest player in Bayern’s history - aged just 17 years and 273 days - to score and set up a goal in a single Bundesliga game. He is also the first 17-year-old to do so for the record titleholders.

The only younger player to register a goal and an assist in the same Bundesliga game was former Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko, who did so in a 3-1 win over Freiburg in August 2022.

Karl has already made history with the Bavarians this season, becoming the club’s youngest scorer in UEFA Champions League history with his goal in the 4-0 triumph over Club Brugge in late October.

Less than 72 hours later, he become the third-youngest player to score a Bundesliga goal for the German champions - after Jamal Musiala and Mathys Tel - courtesy of a magnificent, curling strike in a 3-0 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Victory over Freiburg was Bayern’s tenth in 11 Bundesliga matches this season and further strengthened their position at the top of Germany’s top flight, after fellow high-flyers Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller on Saturday afternoon.
