"Bayern Munich game like a cup final" - Eintracht Frankfurt's Sebastien Haller

Sebastien Haller has likened Eintracht Frankfurt’s trip to Bayern Munich on Matchday 34 to a cup final.

While Bundesliga leaders Bayern will win the title if they avoid defeat, Frankfurt are playing for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Eagles were in pole position to qualify for the competition a month ago, but a five-match winless run has seen them drop to sixth in the standings heading into the final day.

They now need to better the results of Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen - at home to Borussia Dortmund and away to Hertha Berlin respectively - if they are to secure a top-four finish.

"You could say that it’s like a final, a bit like the DFB Cup final, because everyone knows that we can make this a season that goes down in the history books," Haller told Frankfurt’s official website. "Obviously though it could not be any more difficult. Bayern are at home and looking to secure the title, but we’ll be ready for them.

"We’ll obviously go out and give it our all in every match. We can’t do any more than that, and we'll see what we come out with at the end. There’s no point working out calculations before the match, and that’s not something that we’ve doing in any case. Once we’re out on the pitch, we’ll just try to enjoy it."

Haller returned to Bundesliga action as a substitute in Frankfurt’s 2-0 defeat to Mainz last week, but is expected to start against Bayern in what would be his first start since Matchday 27 following an abductor injury. The Frenchman helped Eintracht win the 2017/18 DFB Cup in Niko Kovac’s final game as coach last summer, and hopes his side can use that inside knowledge to their advantage in Munich.

"We know how Niko Kovac coaches his players," said Haller, who is second only to Luka Jovic in the Frankfurt scoring charts on 14 Bundesliga goals for the season. "We know how they play. They have great players with a lot of experience. As I said, it will be like a final with all the stakes that that entails.

"I’m relieved to be back, and now I want to help the team over the line. We’re totally focused on finishing off the season in the right way in the final match."
