Eintracht Frankfurt have announced the appointment of Adi Hütter as their new head coach, who has penned a deal until 2029. The Austrian previously enjoyed a three-year stint at Frankfurt, helping the Eagles reach the semi-final of the UEFA Europa League for the first time since 1980.

Hütter succeeds Albert Riera at Frankfurt, who was dismissed as head coach earlier this month.

The 56-year-old's most recent position came at Monaco, whom he guided to consecutive second and third place finishes in Ligue 1 - securing UEFA Champions League qualification in the process - before his dismissal in October 2025.

Prior to that, Hütter spent the 2021/22 season at Borussia Mönchengladbach, where his side secured a top 10 finish in the Bundesliga table and memorably defeated Bayern Munich 5-0 in the second round of the DFB Cup.

Following the announcement of his return to Frankfurt, Hütter stated: “For me it’s very special and emotional to be coach at Eintracht again. The time we had together in Frankfurt left a big impression on me and has always stayed with me. Looking back, I always had the feeling of having unfinished business.

"I’m therefore all the more pleased to get the opportunity to tackle this task with a lot of hard work, discipline and a clear focus. The club’s journey in recent years is remarkable. We will do everything to ensure that the team delights the fans next season and we have a successful season.”

Following Hütter's appointment, Frankfurt board member for sport Markus Krösche said: “Adi Hütter stands for brave attacking football, clarity and discipline. He’s shown in his career that he can combine fast-paced transitional play with possession – especially at Monaco, where he so effectively developed and stabilised one of the youngest teams in the league that they were able to establish themselves among the elite in France.

"After very good talks, we are convinced that we can advance Eintracht together. It’s an advantage that Adi knows the structures, the environment and the people in and around the club, and won’t really need a settling-in period.”

Between 2018 and 2021, Frankfurt didn't finish lower than ninth in the Bundesliga under Hütter, and so fans will be hoping he can bring some stability and success to Deutsche Bank Park after the Eagles missed out on European football for the upcoming season.
