Will Bayern Munich make it a double treble across men’s and women’s football in 2025/26?

Bayern Munich have already retained their Bundesliga titles in the men’s and women’s formats in 2025/26, but neither team is done there in their pursuit of silverware. Both are now pushing for domestic cup and European glory as well. No club has ever won the treble with both the men’s and women’s teams in a single season. Could the German juggernaut be the first?

Bayern’s men beat VfB Stuttgart 4-2 on Matchday 30 to take an unassailable 15-point lead at the Bundesliga summit with four games to go as they successfully defended their Bundesliga crown.

The men's Meisterschale has been made even bigger this year

Just three days later, the women also retained their title – their fourth in a row – by winning 3-2 away at Union Berlin on Wednesday. They, too, did it with four games to spare, making it the joint-earliest title win in the Women’s Bundesliga (this its 36th season).

"Bayern has always been characterised by its ability to maintain its success, and this holds true in women’s football as well," said club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen after the women's triumph.

Both teams have won their respective leagues in seriously impressive fashion. The men have set a new record for goals in a Bundesliga season with 109 (and counting), boasting a monster goal difference of +80 after winning 25, drawing four and losing only one of their 30 games so far.

Likewise, the women have a goal difference of +76, having conceded only eight times from their 22 games. Their record is a near flawless 21 wins and one draw (0-0 vs. Carl Zeiss Jena on Matchday 3).

After opening the season in front of a German women’s football record crowd of 57,762 at the Allianz Arena against Bayer Leverkusen, the Munich Frauen will once again join the men on the balcony of the town hall at Marienplatz.

The challenge now is which team will bring the most trophies?

A couple of hours after the women beat Union to secure the league title, the men won 2-0 in Leverkusen thanks to Harry Kane and Luis Díaz to progress to a first DFB Cup final since 2020. They will be favourites to lift the cup for a 21st time against either VfB Stuttgart or Freiburg on 23 May.

The women had booked their place in the final of their DFB Cup earlier in April by beating Essen 4-0 in the semis. They now face arch-rivals and record cup winners Wolfsburg in Cologne on 14 May as they look to retain that trophy as well in their first season under José Barcala, who replaced Alexander Straus after the Norwegian guided the team to their first-ever domestic double in 2024/25.

Should both teams prevail in May’s finals, it will mean a clean sweep of domestic silverware in Munich for the season, after both teams also lifted their Supercups back in August.

The one competition that both teams truly crave, however, is the Champions League.

Bayern are six-time European champions in the men’s game, last winning the trophy as part of their sextuple in 2020. The women, though, are yet to claim continental honours, having twice before fallen at the semi-final stage.

Both teams are in the last four this year, two games away from a potential final.

The men's route to treble glory

The women will learn their fate first as they play three-time champions and arguably women’s football’s most dominant team, Barcelona. The first leg at the Allianz Arena is on Saturday, 25 April before the return fixture at the Camp Nou eight days later. Bayern have already visited the Catalan capital this season in the league phase, suffering a heavy 7-1 loss for what remains their only competitive defeat of 2025/26.

The winner of the tie will face either holders Arsenal or record eight-time champions Lyon in Oslo on 23 May.

As for the men, they have to take on holders Paris Saint-Germain in their semi-final, starting in France on Tuesday, 28 April. The tie will be decided at the Allianz Arena eight days later.

Vincent Kompany’s side have also already faced their semi-final opponents this season, winning 2-1 at the Parc des Princes in the league phase thanks to a Díaz double.

Victory over the two legs will see Bayern play either Arsenal or Atlético Madrid in Budapest on 30 May, the week after the DFB Cup final and the women’s potential Champions League final.

“Our fans can be proud of how our club has performed season after season,” said president Herbert Hainer in reference to the two Bundesliga title wins and key knockout ties to come.

There are still plenty of ifs and buts - especially in Europe - as Bayern push for three trophies on two fronts. But history is within touching distance for the Germans in their pursuit of that historic double treble.
