Alphonso Davies expected to be fit for Bayern Munich's UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla
Alphonso Davies is expected to be fit for Bayern Munich’s UEFA Super Cup match against Sevilla on Thursday.
Davies, 19, missed Bayern’s opening match of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season as they thrashed Schalke 8-0 at the Allianz Arena on Friday night.
The Canadian’s omission, only on the bench, came as a surprise considering the fact he had started 37 of Bayern’s previous 39 competitive matches on their way to winning the treble of Bundesliga, DFB Cup and UEFA Champions League.
Lucas Hernandez started the game at left-back with Davies rested as a precaution due to a slight muscular injury. “90 minutes wouldn’t have been good for him,” coach Hansi Flick explained to broadcaster DAZN.

His presence among the substitutes implies that he could’ve played if needed, but the comfortable scoreline meant there was no need to take any risks, with young American defender Chris Richards being given a stint at centre-back in the second half instead.
A winger converted into a left-back, Davies was named the 2019/20 Bundesliga Rookie of the Season, was included in the Champions League Squad of the Season and is on the three-mam shortlist to be named the competition's best defender of the season alongside teammates David Alaba and Joshua Kimmich.
The extra time to recover means the Canadian has every chance of being fit for the treble winners’ next chance at silverware when they head to Budapest on Thursday to take on UEFA Europa League holders Sevilla in the European Super Cup.
