Second mystery fixture revealed: Hannover face Kaiserslautern on Matchday 1

Once again, our "What's the Match?" game schedule quiz provided plenty of entertainment for and we'd like to thank you for your participation! Many of you correctly guessed that the latest fixture list match reveal in Bundesliga 2 was Hannover versus Kaiserslautern!

Let's look back over the answers to our game-reveal clues ...

Clue 1: Kaiserslautern ran a total of 3,839.5 kilometers last season, while Hannover  covered 3,804 kilometers.

Clue 2: For the Lower Saxony club, the number contained in their name is, of course, 96, while for Kaiserslautern, it's 1.

Clue 3: Hannover and Kaiserslautern each hit the post or crossbar nine times in the 2024/25 season. 

Clue 4: Hannover and Kaiserslautern met in the 1987/88 Bundesliga season on March 5, 1988, in heavy snowfall. The match ended 1-0 for Hannover thanks to a goal by Detlev Dammeier.

Clue 5: From the Fritz-Walter-Stadion in Kaiserslautern, it is almost 450 kilometers via the A5 and A7 motorways to the Heinz von Heiden Arena in Hanover.

Already announced ...

Schalke and Hertha will open the new Bundesliga 2 season while Bayern and Leipzig will begin the Bundesliga campaign. Newly-promoted Hamburg and Cologne, meanwhile, also discovered some of their initial games. HSV will travel to Munich on Matchday 3 while Cologne are headed to Stuttgart for Carnival in February. As we saw in our mystery quiz reveal yesterday, Frankfurt will start against Werder Bremen.

Schalke to host Hertha in Bundesliga 2 opener!

Schalke will play at home to Hertha Berlin in the opening fixture of the 2025/26 Bundesliga 2 season on 1 August (at 8.30pm CEST) in a heavyweight tussle to raise the curtain on the new campaign.

HSV in Munich on Matchday 3

Two further fixtures have also been revealed: Hamburg will face their former player and current Bayern coach Vincent Kompany in Munich on Matchday 3, while Cologne will travel to VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 22 on Carnival weekend.

Bayern to kick off new season against Leipzig!

Ahead of the release of the full fixture list for the new 2025/26 Bundesliga season, it has already been revealed that Bayern Munich will kick off the new campaign at home to RB Leipzig on Friday 22 August. As is tradition, the reigning league champions get the new campaign under way, and this year is set to begin with a bang as Vincent Kompany’s Bayern side host long-standing rivals Leipzig.
