Nico Schlotterbeck has eye on Der Klassiker

“We’re not playing as well as we can at the moment, but we’re improving," said the robust defender after Dortmund's home win over Frankfurt. "We’re heading to Bayern next week and want to put in a good performance there too.”

Crossing the divide

Dortmund attacking midfielder Marcel Sabitzer spent two seasons with Bayern, while Emre Can - currently sidelined with an injury sustained in February's Klassiker - began his professional career with the Munich club.

Cup appetisers

Prior to Saturday's big game, both teams have DFB Cup ties to negotiate. On paper, the Black & Yellows have the tougher challenge, as they take on a resurgent Werder Bremen at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday. Holders Bayern, meanwhile, host second-tier Magdeburg the following day.

Tight at the top

Both teams, unbeaten since the start of the season, sit on 17 points after Matchday 7, having each dropped just four points via two draws. They are separated by goal difference (+19 to +8), with Bayern's whopping goal tally of 25 making the difference. Dortmund have conceded two fewer goals than their Klassiker opponents, though.

Tale of the tape

This will be the 115th meeting between the two sides in the Bundesliga. Bayern have the upper hand with 56 wins, while Dortmund have prevailed on 26 occasions. The Bavarians have won the last three meetings in all competitions, but BVB were unbeaten in the three meetings before that.

Der Klassiker returns!

This is the one everyone has been waiting for as Germany's two heavyweights do battle. These two sides sit top of the pile in terms of league title wins, and will be eager to make a statement as the title race begins to take shape.
