But I also don’t want to talk about a situation of fear, because we have the chance of getting into the play-off spot. We need to take that chance and accept it. The St. Pauli captain told the Bundesliga: “In different stages of the season we have looked better defensively, and we have looked more dangerous in front of goal, but we maybe haven’t found the combination of both. We are going to have to find that in this last game. We are going to have to be defensively solid, structurally good, and create those chances like we did last week and put them away.”

For St. Pauli to finish in the promotion/relegation play-off, they need to win and hope Heidenheim fail to beat Mainz. If both teams win on Matchday 34, Pauli will leapfrog Heidenheim as long as they triumph by a higher margin than Frank Schmidt's side.

If Wolfsburg and Heidenheim both win, Heidenheim would need to triumph by at least three more goals than the Wolves to leapfrog them in the standings. If both teams finish with the same goal difference and goals scored, Wolfsburg would finish higher as they have the better head-to-head record.

Fight for survival

St. Pauli are locked on 26 points with Heidenheim and Wolfsburg as we head into the final round of fixtures. Currently on a run of nine games without a win, Alexander Blessin's side sit bottom of the Bundesliga for the first time since their promotion in 2024.
