Watch: Raum takes stock of Leipzig's win

camera-photo

Full-time: Bremen 1-2 RB Leipzig

Leipzig just about hold on for a valuable win in the race for Europe. The away side ultimately secure a somewhat flattering victory. Werner's team proved exceptionally efficient, while Werder rarely posed a real threat. Musah's consolation goal came too late, but it was a wonderful moment for the young forward who looks to have a big future in the game.

Musah gets one back!

Moments after missing a sitter, the youngster has his first Bremen goal! Schmid plays him clean through, and Musah keeps his composure to slot the ball into the near corner of the net. Bremen couldn't...could they?

Seven minutes added on...

Bremen are running out of time to get something out of this one. They are currently in possession of the ball, but can't break RB down.
86'

Final changes for Leipzig

Henrich's replaces Diomande, while Ouédraogo makes his return to Bundesliga action after an injury layoff.
82'

Musah can't test the keeper

The youngster does brilliantly well to spin away from his marker at the edge of the penalty area. He works some space for a shot, but it's straight at Vandevoordt in the Leipzig goal.
81'

Should be game over!

It's a great chance for Diomande to wrap up the three points! Baumgartner plays a beautiful through ball to the Ivorian. He then races towards Backhaus, chips the ball over the onrushing Werder keeper, but narrowly misses the target. It's a let-off for the home side!
78'

Double change for both sides

Milošević and Musah are on to try and drag Bremen back into this one. Leipzig, meanwhile, replace goalscorers Nusa and Rômulo with Gomis and Harder. It's not getting any easier for the Werder back-line here...
78'

Substitution

74'

Puertas booked

The Bremen forward takes out Nusa in midfield and is rightly booked. It's his fifth yellow card, meaning the Swiss player will miss next week's crucial six-pointer in Cologne.
camera-photo

Bremen are struggling to create

It's been a frustrating half for the hosts so far. There's still plenty of room for improvement in front of goal, as they've been pretty wasteful.
66'

Baumgartner goes down

The RB midfielder needs some treatment. Bittencourt caught the Austrian late, who looked to be struggling a fair bit in the aftermath. He is okay to continue, however.
61'

Bremen's frustrating afternoon

The hosts have had a lot of the ball - and plenty of good chances - throughout the game.

Sugawara comes on

After his heroics on international duty for Japan, the wing-back comes on for the final 30 minutes or so - replacing Grüll.
60'

Njinmah blazes over the bar

Schmid plays the ball to the striker on the left side of the Leipzig box. Njinmah doesn't hesitate and shoots just over the bar from a tight angle.
58'

Change for Leipzig

Werner is shaking things up a bit by replacing defender Lukeba with Banzuzi, who generally operates as a midfielder.
camera-photo

Leipzig double their lead!

It was all far too easy for Brazilian forward Rômulo. Agu does well to dispossess Baumgartner inside the Bremen box, but the loose ball is collected by Rômulo on the penalty spot, who has time and space to slot the ball into the corner. It's harsh on the hosts, but Leipzig's clinical edge in front of goal has made the difference today.

Attacking move by Thioune

Čović replaces Pieper, who is clutching his head as he goes off the pitch. It's an attacking move from Bremen, as the 18-year-old has slotted straight into midfield.

Pieper recieves treatment

The defender appears to have taken a knock to the head after a clash. He won't be able to continue by the looks of it...

Second-half is underway!

Bremen have 45 minutes to try and get something out of this one. Both sides are unchanged.

Half-time

Half-time: Bremen 0-1 Leipzig

The home side will feel a bit hard done by to be going into the break a goal down. Leipzig have simply been more ruthless, after Nusa netted with the side's only shot on target. Bremen have had several opportunities to equalise, but Vandevoordt has stood up to everything that has been thrown at him so far. Leipzig coach Werner, back at his former club, will be content with the scoreline, if not the performance.
45'

Two minutes added on

There is still time for Bremen to grab an equaliser before the break, although Leipzig currently have the ball.
44'

Njinmah flagged offside

Puertas collects the ball in a dangerous area, but his shot is blocked. The rebound eventually falls back to Njinmah, who forces Vandevoordt into a strong save with his feet from a few yards out. However, the linesman's flag then goes up.
41'

Another chance for the hosts

Bremen are enjoying a good spell before the break. Lynen is the latest player to try his luck at goal, but his shot from range is easily helped by Vandevoordt.
37'

Schmid tests Vandevoordt again

Bittencourt plays Schmid through on the left side of the penalty area. The Austrian shoots towards the near post, but Vandevoordt gets down smartly and parries the ball away for a corner.

camera-professional-play-symbol

Big Bremen chance!

Puertas does brilliantly well to wriggle away from Lukeba at the edge of the Leipzig box. He works some space for a shot, but drags it just wide of Vandevoordt's left post. That's much better from the hosts, who have been quiet since the opening goal.
camera-photo

Diomande and Baku combine well

The Leipzig pair are looking dangerous in tandem. A loose ball is pounced upon by Diomande just inside the Bremen half. He plays in Baku down the right channel, whose pacey cross into the box is well intercepted by Freidl.
26'

Leipzig reassert control

The away side have just started to dictate the tempo of the game in the last 10 minutes or so. Raum, in particular, is seeing a lot of the ball down the left channel. Bremen, meanwhile, have had one or two decent openings on the counter - to little avail.
22'

Backhaus to the rescue

Bremen are put under some pressure by a series of threatening Raum crosses. Fortunately for the hosts, German U21 keeper Backhaus claims the latest effort after charging off his goal-line.
camera-photo

Bremen have little to show for their early possession

18'

Penalty appeal

Bremen look to respond quickly. Agu floats a ball to the back-post for Schmid to head goalwards, but his shot is blocked by Lukeba. Despite some appeals from the home fans, the ball hit his shoulder, and not his hand as many were implying.

Leipzig take the lead!

It's a lovely finish from the winger! Schmid forces a save from Vandevoordt at one end, which sets Leipzig away on a dangerous counter. After stopping Rômulo's effort, the Bremen defenders are powerless to prevent Nusa firing into the near corner of the net from outside the box. It's just the start Werner will have been looking for.

Diomande lively

Leipzig have gotten off to a fairly quiet start, but Diomande is the one man making things happen for the visitors. He attempts another mazy run into the Bremen box, but is well stopped by Pieper.

More on that Leipzig side

By contrast, Leipzig coach Ole Werner makes only one change to his starting eleven compared to the last game (a 5-0 home win against Hoffenheim). Nusa comes in for Gruda, who is not in the squad due to adductor problems.

More on that Bremen side

Werder coach Daniel Thioune makes three changes from the side that earned a crucial 1-0 victory in Wolfsburg. Agu, Pieper and Lynen come in for Stark (not in the squad due to muscular problems), Sugawara and Mbangula (both on the bench).

Ole Werner on facing Bremen

"I think they've rediscovered their strengths under a new coach [in Daniel Thioune], who is a great fit for the club. They've got clear ideas in possession, play a balanced game and are defending well again. We've seen that they're playing to their potential again in recent weeks. We'll go there trying to win, but it won't be easy. Obviously it's special when you face your former club. I can't do anything about whether the fans jeer or cheer."
camera-photo

Daniel Thioune on facing Leipzig

"It's the first time we're up against a team in the top third of the league table since the game against Bayern. We're going to have to deal with a team that has real attacking prowess. They create a lot of chances for themselves, and they have a lot of pace in the side. From our standpoint, it's about picking up where we left off. We've taken a step forward in our defensive work, we allow our opponents a lot less, and we need to prevent Leipzig from having a sniff as much as we possibly can."

Boniface returns to Bremen training

The 25-year-old forward has trained individually this week after completing his rehab in Leverkusen. "We will then slowly ease him back into team training, in the hopes that he might able to feature again before the end of the season," said Peter Niemeyer, Bremen's head of professional football.
camera-photo

Leipzig look to extend unbeaten run

Of the 17 Bundesliga matches played between the two clubs, Bremen have won just two, while RB Leipzig has recorded 12 victories. The Green and Whites haven't recorded a win in this fixture since May 2019.
camera-photo

Flawless break for Bremen quartet

It was a great international break for Bremen's Austrian trio of Friedl, Wöber and Schmid, as Ralf Rangnick's men defeated Ghana (5-1) and South Korea (1-0) on home soil. Sugawara, meanwhile, started in Japan's 1-0 away win against Scotland, and came on as a late substitute as England were defeated by the same scoreline.
camera-photo

Raum stakes his international claim

The Leipzig left-back started for Germany in their 4-3 win over Switzerland before coming off the bench in their 2-1 win over Ghana, putting in confident performances in both fixtures.
camera-photo

Bremen edging towards survival

Like their opponents, Bremen have won three of their past four top-flight fixtures to give themselves breathing space over the bottom three. Only Bayern and Stuttgart have picked up more points than Daniel Thioune's charges in that time.
camera-photo

Leipzig finding form

Leipzig's thumping win over Hoffenheim was their third victory in their last four league games - a run which has reignited their push for a top-four finish. Another three points at Werder could even lift Ole Werner's side into the top three, if other results go their way.
