Full-time! Freiburg 2-3 Bayern

An incredible finish to a remarkable second half in Freiburg. The hosts took a fully deserved 2-0 lead, but the introduction of Michael Olise changed the game as Bayern pulled level through an unlikely Tom Bischof double. Lennart Karl then sank a dramatic injury-time winner - Bayern's 100th goal of the Bundesliga season - to complete a memorable comeback.
Full-time
camera-photo

They've done it!

Bayern snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Kimmich plays a brilliant ball in behind the Freiburg defence for Davies, who crosses for Karl to tap in unmarked from inside the six-yard area. He's booked for removing his shirt in celebration, but won't care one bit. What character, what a turnaround!

Denied!

Freiburg break away as Irié shoots goalwards from close range, but Bayern have men behind the ball and get the ball to safety.

Hearts in mouths!

Laimer receives a pass from Karl, but fires wide from a tight angle, before the whistle sounds for an offside...
camera-photo

Bischof at the double!

He's done it again! Olise plays a quick one-two with Laimer from a corner. He then slides a pass to the unmarked Bischof, who sweeps a fine finish beyond Atubolu from 18 yards.

Added time

Into the first of eight added minutes in Freiburg as Laimer crosses for Musiala, who can't make a clean connection with his header...
90'

Reinforcements

Nicolas Höfler comes on to shore up the Freiburg midfield in place of Yuito Suzuki. Goalscorer Höler also makes may, with defender Bruno Ogbus his replacement.
87'

Last roll of the dice

Kompany goes all-in with the introduction of jet-fuelled left-back Alphonso Davies, who makes his return following a thigh problem. Central defender Kim makes way.
86'

Penned in

It's all Bayern as Olise gets away from Treu and sends in a cross that's hooked clear from inside the Freiburg area.
84'

Kimmich from downtown...

... but Atubolu is there once more.

Game on!

Freiburg can't get out as Bischof receives the ball 20 yards from goal, before striking clean, true and low past Atubolu's despairing dive. That had been coming...

80'

Atubolu again!

Díaz does brilliantly to shimmy away from Suzuki on the edge of the area following a corner. He curls one towards the far corner, but Atubolu is equal to it.
78'

Fresh legs

Something else for Bayern to think about as Schuster sends on Igor Matanović and Cyriaque Irié for Beste and Manzambi, who've both been a real nuisance for the visiting back line.
77'

Strong save

Atubolu dives to his right to prevent Olise nestling a shot into the top corner. The Freiburg defence celebrate like they've scored a goal.
76'

Beste in class

Freiburg scored twice from Beste corners in their 6-2 defeat in Munich earlier this season. He's really been back to his best after struggling for form during a spell in Portugal with Benfica.
73'

Frustrations

Olise is cautioned for blocking the run of Treu, who has moved over to the left since Kübler's introduction.
71'

Freiburg strike again!

Freiburg counter and win a corner through Beste. Neuer throws himself at the former Heidenheim man's ensuing delivery, but doesn't get enough on it and Höler reacts first to sweep home on his 300th Bundesliga appearance.

Changes

Freiburg's Lukas Kübler, a right-back by trade, is on for left-back Günter. Bayern also make a change, with Jamal Musiala replacing Gnabry. The visitors are without a recognised central striker today, remember.

Ominous

Bayern are seeing more of the ball and pressing much higher up the pitch since making those changes...

Big chance!

Olise is straight into the action. The Frenchman is all alone in the Freiburg penalty area as he receives a cross from Bischof, but his outside-of-the-boot volley goes just wide.
56'

Well dealt with

Bayern win a corner that's sent in towards the near post by Kimmich, but Atubolu punches clear. The set-piece is followed by a trio of Bayern substitutions as Kompany plots a way back into the contest...
54'

Höler again!

Freiburg attack with Beste, who plays a superb square ball into the feet of Höler. The veteran forward does really well to cut inside of Karl in the penalty area, before firing fractionally wide with only Neuer to beat.
52'

Over!

Höler has his head in his hands after scooping a first-time effort over from inside the Bayern penalty area, following a smart run and cross from Treu. Will that miss come back to haunt the Black Forest club?

Expected Goals

info-small
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
It's a deserved lead for Freiburg, who've made a brilliant start to the second half. Bayern are shell-shocked.

What a goal!

Neuer's beaten by a very special goal. It starts with the Freiburg press as Bayern lose possession on the left-hand side. Manzambi picks up the ball, drives past Gnabry and slaps a long-range effort past Neuer, who just didn't expect the Switzerland international to shoot so early.

Half-time! Freiburg 0-0 Bayern

Manuel Neuer's brilliance ensures Bayern go in at the break on level terms. The 40-year-old's evergreen reactions denied Lucas Höler and Philipp Lienhart in what's been an entertaining and pretty even first half of Bundesliga football.
45'
+ 1

Close!

Hesitant defending invites the run of Gnabry who, chasing his 100th Bundesliga goal, hammers a long-range effort narrowly past the upright.

Over!

Karl creates an opening with a trademark inside run off the right-hand side. Díaz doesn't connect with his overhead attempt as the ball falls for Bischoff at the near post, but it's a tight angle and on his right foot, and he can only clear the crossbar.
41'

Snuffed out

Guerreiro powers through the middle and finds Díaz in the penalty box. He has his back to goal and is surrounded by three defenders, who eventually manage to dig out the ball and clear.
39'

Right idea

Treu gets forward and wins a corner off Díaz. Lienhart is lurking again, but can't get his head on the end of Beste's devilish in-swinging cross.
0:24
camera-professional-play-symbol

Goalkeeping GOAT

Neuer springs to his left to pull off another unreal goal-line save and prevent Lienhart heading in Scherhant's free-kick. Pure class from arguably the best ever.
30'

Foul play

Ginter goes into the book for a foul on Díaz, right on the edge of the Freiburg penalty area. He had to do something - the Colombian would have been one-on-one with the goalkeeper otherwise. Gnabry's resultant free-kick hits the wall.
28'

Super Manu

Neuer makes a brilliant reaction save as Höler connects with a cross from the left on the volley, before the whistle sounds for an offside. He's still got it, even after turning 40 last week.
26'

Set-piece threat

Tah's booked for upending Suzuki on the edge of the Bayern area. It's in a good position for the left foot of Beste, but Neuer gets behind the attempt to make a fairly routine save.
24'

Loose!

Gasps among the home fans as Atubolu miscues a clearance. Luckily for him, a Freiburg player gets to it first.
camera-photo

So far, so good for the hosts

Freiburg have acquitted themselves really well in the opening 23 minutes. They're standing up well to Bayern's attacks and have created some promising moments at the other end.
19'

Kimmich!

Bayern expertly switch the play to get Karl involved on the right. His teasing cross is helped on by Stanišić towards Díaz, who's beaten to it in the air. Kimmich takes on the loose ball, but his shot is too close to Atubolu.
16'

Injury concern

Manzambi receives treatment after being caught by Goretzka's stray leg in that earlier move, but is able to return to the field of play.
14'

Best chance yet!

And it falls the way of Freiburg. Manzambi's the catalyst with a brilliant turn away from Goretzka on the left-hand side. He feeds Beste, who looks up and crosses into the penalty area. Treu's unmarked just right of centre, but slots his first-time attempt wide of the far post.
11'

Blocked!

Kim finds Stanišić in the Freiburg box with a superbly weighted pass from deep. The Croatian selflessly opts to drop it off for the run of Bischof, but his goal-bound effort hits Guerreiro and the Freiburg defence can breathe again.
9'

Well read

Atubolu reads the danger really well to stop Gnabry latching onto Guerreiro's chipped ball into the penalty area. Superb timing by the Freiburg No.1!
6'

On target

Bayern launch a quick attack with a long ball up to Díaz. He holds the ball up really well before Bischof comes into play and shoots straight at Atubolu from 18 yards.
5'

Chance!

Höler charges down Neuer, taking possession after a heavy touch from the Bayern captain. It opens up for the Freiburg forward in the penalty area, but he elects to find a teammate instead of shoot and his pass drifts across the six-yard box and wide of the far post.
3'

Early pattern

The Bayen players are camped in the Freiburg half as the try to prise open the home defence. Höler eventually picks off a pass and tries to break, but the ball goes out of play.
1'

Retake

Referee Daniel Siebert is unhappy with something as Bayern kick off. The ball is returned to the centre circle, before the game gets under way.
Kick-off!

Teams out

Freiburg captain Christian Günter wins the coin toss. He elects to stay, with the hosts kicking from right to left in the first half. Freiburg are in white and red; Bayern in their change strip of black with red and green accents.

Single-season goal record in sight

For over 50 years, Bayern's class of 1971/72 have remained the go[a]ld standard. Gerd Müller & Co. hit a record 101 Bundesliga goals that season - but Vincent Kompany's defending champions are set to blow that out of the window. They've scored 97 goals going into today's game in Freiburg, and have another six league fixtures to follow...

Proud home faithful

Freiburg fans are singing their hearts out ahead of kick-off. They know what a big month it is for the club, with key DFB Cup and Europa League games still to come.

Watch: Vincent Kompany on fitness of Harry Kane and Manuel Neuer

At his pre-match press conference, the Bayern head coach gave an update on the availability of two of his biggest stars.
camera-photo

Atubolu on Manuel Neuer's influence

"I’ve always looked up to him. I still do because he’s simply the best we’ve ever had. He shaped and changed a whole generation. Of course, I think everyone still remembers that Algeria match [at the 2014 FIFA World Cup], the way he revolutionised things by playing out from the back, by coming off his line. I think I’ve developed my own style over the years. But I think I’m also the sort of goalkeeper who gets involved in the play."
camera-photo

Atubolu on Harry Kane's penalty prowess

"I think he makes himself unpredictable. You can tell he puts a lot of thought into it and is just very versatile in his run-up and in the things he does. As a goalkeeper, you never quite know what he’s going to do. But I just prepare well, as I do for any other striker, and then try to make the best of it."
camera-photo

Noah Atubolu on whether playing Bayern is a thankless task

"I think you could see it as thankless, but you could also see it as us just getting to play against them," the Freiburg goalkeeper said in an interview with the Bundesliga. "I think it’ll be a really great game here at home, because we’re a real force at home. It’ll be a fantastic game. We can really look forward to it."
camera-photo

Champions League thoughts

Bayern have their Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid coming up next week, but Saturday's game could also have a big impact on next season. If they win in Freiburg, they will be guaranteed a top-four finish and therefore a place in the 2026/27 league phase. That will also be the case if they lose and either Leipzig, Hoffenheim or Stuttgart fail to win.
camera-photo

Kompany on Neuer and Urbig

"Manu is 100 percent fit. He's been in top form in training this week. If he can reproduce that next week, we'll all be very happy. Jonas [Urbig] rejoined us yesterday, which is also a very positive development for us."
camera-photo

Kompany on Musiala and Davies

"Both are available for our upcoming games, but whether they're capable of playing three games in a week or 90 minutes straight is another matter. I've seen the minutes they're capable of playing, and we'll get the best out of them. We're trying to make sensible decisions."
camera-photo

Kompany confirms Kane absence

Vincent Kompany has confirmed Harry Kane will miss the trip to Freiburg through injury. "Harry trained well until Sunday [but] felt his ankle with the national team," said the Bayern Munich boss. "I'm optimistic about Tuesday, though [when Bayern face Real Madrid]. I'd like to have him available for Freiburg, but that's not possible at the moment."
camera-photo

Vincent Kompany on facing Freiburg

"They're a team with intensity who are very, very strong at home. They have players who are confident and score goals. They've remained very consistent, despite their fixture list - not everyone manages to do that in Europe and in the Bundesliga. That shows how their young coach is helping the club with his personal touch. I count this game as one of the most difficult ones in the league."
camera-photo

Julian Schuster on facing Bayern

"[The reverse fixture] was an important experience which taught us that, at certain moments, they actually offer you the chance to get at them. On Saturday, there will also be phases where we'll have to dig in to keep them at bay - but the key is to get through those moments and be fully ready for the next phase of play. We mustn't lose focus or intensity, remaining highly alert throughout the whole game. That will be crucial."

Freiburg eye return to Europe

Fresh from securing a place in a European quarter-final for the first time in their history, Julian Schuster's side ended a run of three league games without a win against St. Pauli. Freiburg are nine points adrift of the top six but are now just a point behind seventh-placed Eintracht Frankfurt, who were beaten at Mainz in their last game.

Runaway leaders closing in on title

Bayern's victory over Union was their sixth win in their past seven league fixtures, leaving them nine points clear of closest pursuers Borussia Dortmund with seven games remaining.
