Full-time: Augsburg 1-0 Heidenheim

It's a smash and grab from the hosts, who were second-best for most of the game. Heidenheim's poor finishing cost them on an afternoon where Claude-Maurice's spot-kick made the difference. Heidenheim stay rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga table, while Augsburg are now up to 11th, six points clear of 16th-placed Werder Bremen.

Zivzivadze booked

The substitute arrives late on Schlotterbeck inside the Augburg box and picks up a yellow card.

Four minutes added on

Heidenheim still have time to salvage something here. It would be a huge point in the context of relegation battle...

Final changes by Schmidt

Beck and Honsak are brought on to try and turn the tide. They almost have an immediate impact, with Ibrahimović breaking forward on the counter, but firing just over the crossbar. He is still yet to score for Heidenheim in the Bundesliga.
83'

Ribeiro almost makes it two!

Where has this revival come from? Augsburg burst forward again, this time through substitute Ribeiro. He beautifully weaves his way through the Heidenheim defence, and forces a great diving save from Ramaj. What an introduction!
camera-photo

Claude-Maurice makes no mistake!

Ramaj guesses the right way, but the penalty is so well-placed in the corner of the net that it just evades the grasp of the German keeper. Augsburg lead against the run of play to ease their relegation fears.

Penalty for Augsburg!

It all comes from a corner. Gimber is adjudged to have dragged down Schlotterbeck inside the box. It's heartbreak for Heidenheim, who have played so well today. Claude-Maurice will take it...
75'

Ibrahimović can't break through

His influence on the game is growing. The on-loan winger has two shots from range, both of which are well blocked. For the time being, Augsburg are shutting out Heidenheim.
70'

Just wide from Dinçki

It's another decent opening for the underdogs. Schöpper's long-range shot is blocked, and after the ball drops favourably for Dinçki, the forward curls his effort narrowly wide. They're mounting the pressure on Augsburg, who cannot get out of their own half at the moment.
67'

Dahmen denies Schöpper!

Dinkçi sets up Schöppner inside the Augsburg box, who shoots with the inside of his foot. It's well-placed, forcing Dahmen into an outstretched save. Heidenheim fancy this today...
64'

Brotherly sub

One Conteh brother replaces another. Sirlord is on for Christian, who, aside from some wayward finishing, played very well.
camera-photo

Double change by Baum

Perhaps this can get the home side going. Wolf and Ribeiro are on to try and make the difference in the final third for Augsburg, who have looked a bit toothless today. It's Ribeiro's home debut after making a late cameo appearance against Mainz last weekend.
camera-photo

Heidenheim showing more intent

With the visitors needing a win, it perhaps shouldn't surprise us that they're the side pushing harder for a goal. Despite being on home soil against the Bundesliga's bottom side, Augsburg are very much playing within themselves at the moment.

Substitution

54'

Nervy moments...

Augsburg are being put under pressure in midfield, and as a result, cannot keep hold of the ball. Heidenheim have started the second half just as they started the first - by dominating possession.
50'

Chance for Conteh!

Ramaj pumps the ball downfield and picks out Ibrahimović. The youngster does brilliantly to find Conteh centrally, whose shot from just outside the box is well blocked. His follow up effort is wayward, but it's another confidence-boosting pattern of pay for the away side!
46'

The ball is rolling!

The second period is underway in Augsburg. Both sides remain unchanged.

Half-time: Augsburg 0-0 Heidenheim

Heidenheim will be the happier of the two sides, having made a very bright start to the game. However, they have wasted decent opportunities in and around the Augsburg box, with debutant Conteh looking the most likely to make something happen. The hosts, meanwhile, have forced several saves from Ramaj, but they are yet to put him under any sustained pressure. We have a huge second half coming up...
Half-time
42'

Even contest heading into the break

With just a few minutes until half-time, there is nothing to separate the two sides. Augsburg have arguably had the bigger chances, but Heidenheim have used the ball well and taken the game to the hosts.
camera-photo

Gregoritsch from the halfway line!

The forward tries to catch Ramaj off his line with a shot from way out. The German keeper's blushes are saved, as it just flashes wide of the right post.
34'

Conteh dangerous on the counter

Heidenheim win the ball high up the pitch. Conteh drives forward, before releasing it to Schimmer. However, the striker's touch is a tad loose, and he is then penalised for a foul on Banks. Moments later, Conteh gets on the ball again, but his cross floats harmlessly into the hands of Dahmen.
30'

Heidenheim bold in possession

They may be rock bottom of the Bundesliga table, but the away side have looked much tidier on the ball in the first 30 minutes.

Ramaj spills the ball!

A cross seems to panic the Heidenheim stopper, who spills the ball after an attempted catch. Fortunately for the German, he is able to block Gregoritsch's follow up shot.
23'

Dinçki threatens

Heidenheim regain control of the ball after a bright few minutes for the hosts. Dinçki is eventually played in down the right channel, but his cross is well dealt with by Banks. Augsburg are yet to get into their stride.
19'

Ramaj saves from Jakić!

The midfielder, back in the starting XI this afternoon, tries his luck from outside the box. While venomous, his shot is too close to Ramaj, who parries the ball to safety.
17'

Corner for hosts

It's their first real opportunity to put the visitors under some pressure. However, Claude-Maurice's effort is easily cleared at the near post. Heidenheim have made a very confident start to the game.
14'

Chance from a corner

Ibrahimović whips in an inviting cross to the near-post. Niehues gets their first, but his flicked header flies just over the crossbar.
10'

Dinkçi wasteful

The away side work the ball forward once again. Conteh does well to pick out Dinçki in the penalty area, but he hesitates a moment too long and allows the Augsburg defenders to clear the ball.
camera-photo

Visitors on the front foot

Schmidt's side have had the better of the opening exchanges. A long throw-in causes chaos in the Augsburg box, but the hosts reorganise well to block a pair of shots from range.
5'

Conteh bright on debut

Heidenheim's new signing has got off to a solid start, already looking to make inroads from the left side. It's been a fairly even contest so far, with Augsburg having a penalty shout dismissed in the opening seconds.
1'

We're underway!

Here we go then, both teams could really do with the three points this afternoon. Hosts Augsburg are in their all white kit, while Heidenheim are in their changed all blue strip.
Kick-off!

Table talk

Augsburg currently sit 13th in the Bundesliga table on 22 points. However, they're only three points ahead of Werder Bremen, who occupy the relegation play-off spot in 16th. Heidenheim, meanwhile, are rock bottom on 13 points, four fewer than 17th-placed St. Pauli.

More on that Heidenheim side

Heidenheim also make three changes to their starting XI from last week. Schimmer is in for his second start of the season, while Conteh makes his Bundesliga debut after joining the club last month from Braunschweig (his brother is also on the bench for the visitors).

Manuel Baum makes three changes to the side that lost 2-0 against Mainz last time out. Zesiger, Jakić and Kade start in place of Chaves, Rexhbecaj and Wolf.

Banks on competition for places

In a recent interview with Bundesliga.com, the young Augsburg defender stated: “Everybody deserves to play, but it can only be 11. When I saw I was starting after the win at Bayern [having missed that game through suspension], I was very happy [to come straight back in]. It showed the coach trusts me. I [now] have to pay that back. It has been a great year so far because I didn't expect to play that much, to be absolutely honest with you. The coaches have given me a lot of trust, a lot of minutes.”
camera-photo

Manuel Baum on facing Heidenheim

"Too many things happen before and during the game. The myth of a match plan that can be executed flawlessly for 90 minutes just doesn't exist. That's why you need players who are given certain guidelines and can make sound decisions based on the situation."
camera-photo

Frank Schmidt on facing Augsburg

"They've had a good points haul in the second half of the season and new year. We know that Augsburg have become more stable and perhaps aren't taking maximum risks in their build-up play anymore, but rather have a target man like [Michael] Gregoritsch who is constantly being played long balls."
camera-photo

Set-piece troubles

Since the turn of the year, Augsburg have conceded twice as many goals from set pieces (eight) as any other Bundesliga club. They gave up four goals from dead-ball situations across their first 15 matches of the season.
camera-photo

Heidenheim on the brink?

It's not looking good for Heidenheim, who are bottom of the overall, home and away tables. They've also won the fewest games (three) and lost the most (14) so far in 2025/26, whilst scoring a league-low 19 goals and shipping an unwanted division high 47.

Watch: Heidenheim 2-1 Augsburg - previous meeting

Heidenheim had to wait until Matchday 5 to pick up their first of just three league wins so far this season. They also beat Augsburg at home in 2024/25 (4-0), but have lost their other three against Die Függerstädter, including two on Augsburg soil.

Watch: Mainz 2-0 Augsburg - highlights

Augsburg are not out of the woods yet after losing to improving Mainz on Matchday 21. Manuel Baum's charges had been unbeaten in four, picking up priceless wins over Bayern Munich and St. Pauli, but are still only four points clear of the bottom three and could easily get sucked back into the drop zone.

Watch: Heidenheim 0-2 Hamburg - highlights

Defeat to promoted Hamburg was Heidenheim's 14th of the Bundesliga season. Bottom of the table with 13 rounds of fixtures to go, Frank Schmidt's strugglers could find themselves as many as nine points adrift of the relegation play-off spot if results go against them this weekend.
