Guirassy to the rescue!

Dortmund don't take long to restore their lead. Gittens does really well on the left-hand side, before picking out Guirassy for a powerful downward header. Great goal - his seventh in all competitions in a BVB shirt.

Half-time! Dortmund 1-0 Pauli

Kobel does well to hold onto a daisy-cutter from Eric Smith. That one really kicked up in front of the keeper!

Dangerous!

A Pauli corner's played deep to Guilavogui, who directs an awkward header into the six-yard box. Eggestein is unmarked, but has his back to goal and can't get enough on it to trouble Kobel.

Brandt shows quick feet in midfield, before freeing Ryerson on the edge of the Pauli area. He cuts onto his left foot, but his low strike is straight at the goalkeeper.

Pauli go straight up the other end with Guilavogui, who plays Afolayan in on the Dortmund goal. He takes a little too long, though, allowing Bensebaini to get back and make a brilliant sliding challenge.

Denied!

Anton's teasing cross causes all sorts of problems in the Pauli box. Guirassy can't get a shot off, but Malen is quick to the loose ball. He wriggles clear, before seeing his goal-bound effort blocked in front of the goal-line. Vasilj was unsighted.

Dortmund bouncing

The teams are warming up in Dortmund, with the atmosphere around Signal Iduna Park building nicely.

Table talk

Dortmund could go third, overnight at least, with three points tonight. Pauli could drop to the foot of the table or climb a place to 14th, depending on how things shake out over the weekend.

More on those news

Şahin makes three changes to the team beaten 2-1 by Union prior to the international break. With Yan Couto injured, Ramy Bensebaini comes into the defence, while Marcel Sabitzer and Donyell Malen are preferred to Jamie Gittens and Max Beier in attack. As for Pauli, Elias Saad makes way for Guinean forward Morgan Guilavogui in the only change to the 3-0 loss to Mainz.

Nuri Şahin on facing St. Pauli

“My full focus is on the home game against St. Pauli [rather than facing Real Madrid on Tuesday]. The magic of this stadium is even more different under floodlights. It's something very special. As a player, I loved playing in the evening. I have the same feeling with the boys now."

Alexander Blessin on facing Dortmund

"These are the games we got promoted to the Bundesliga for. The lads earned themselves the right to play in front of the Yellow Wall over the course of last season. It being a Friday night game is obviously a highlight. We're looking forward to genuine top-class opposition. You need to be at your best to get anything at Dortmund."

BVB injury woes

Dortmund could be without up to seven player's for the Friday night game after Yan Couto joined Karim Adeyemi, Julien Duranville and Giovanni Reyna on the list of unavailable players. Şahin has now revealed that Maximilian Beier, Niklas Süle and Julian Ryerson are all doubtful as the trio are struggling with separate illnesses.

Making progress

Having lost their first three games of the season, Pauli bounced back with a welcome point against RB Leipzig before picking up an impressive win against Freiburg on Matchday 5. However, they were well beaten by Mainz last time out.

Looking for consistency
