Boniface: "We're proud"

Leverkusen's super striker Victor Boniface expressed his pride as Bayer added one more win to what has been an incredible campaign to date for the Werkself.

Full-time: Leverkusen 3-0 Eintracht

This Bayer victory was never in doubt with Boniface, Frimpong and Wirtz all on target in a Werkself stroll. The term 'winter champions' might not hold any official significance but Xabi Alonso's men are guaranteed that title with a game to spare.

No penalty Bayer

Tella bursts away and Pacho is struggling to keep up. Or is he? The defender slides in and and makes the most magnificent of last-ditch tackles that has everyone fooled. It does look like a penalty at first glance, with the referee pointing to the spot. That decision has been overturned, however. Amazing tackle.

Wirtz makes way

Florian Wirtz raises his hands to applaud the fans as he makes his way off. A goal and a superlative performance from the 20-year-old here. Amiri comes on.
84'

Off the post!

Leverkusen hit the woodwork again! Tella hoofs a low cross across the face. Hincapie slides in and connects, sending the ball slapping against the upright.
83'

Changes all over

Tella, Hincapie and Hložek are on for the Bundesliga leaders. Eintracht, meanwhile, throw Jessic Ngankan into the mix.
81'

Off the bar!

Oh my, Florian Wirtz: what a player. That would have been such a delightful goal but the attacking midfielder's bending, floating shot from the edge of the area pings off the crossbar.
79'

Schick frustrated

Leverkusen substitute Patrik Schick is roaring for the ball in the centre but Hofmann's cross is just behind the Czech forward and the chance goes awry.
76'

No penalty

Grimaldo is inside the Frankfurt area and he dinks the ball up before seeing it hit Buta's arm. Leverkusen's players appeal but the ref says play on, the subsequent review agreeing with the official.

Off goes Victor Boniface to huge home applause. The striker has scored one, assisted another and it was his saved shot that led to Frimpong's tap in. A solid day's work from the Nigerian.

Bayer's goals tally

The hosts have brought their goals for number up to 42 today, just two shy of Bayern Munich, albeit with the Werkself having played two fewer games. Both Bayer and Bayern have a goal difference of +30 at the moment.
66'

Frimpong's forward thrust

Frimpong turns on the afterburners and lifts a cross into the centre. Trapp plucks that one out of the air.
64'

Frankfurt injury

More bad news for Eintracht, who lose Robin Koch to injury. Smolčić is on, as is Skhiri, who replaces Götze.

Super Flo

That's five goals and six assists for Wirtz in the Bundesliga this season. The 20-year-old is on fire.
58'

Wirtz makes it three

Hradecky's long pass lands at Boniface's feet in the centre of the park. Frankfurt are really caught here as the striker spins and pings a lovely pass on to Wirtz, who runs towards goal. Wirtz applies the most sumptuous of lifted finishes to beat Trapp. Bayer are out of sight now.

Brilliant from Buta, whose determination sees him beating his man and then angling in towards the target. The 26-year-old's subsequent cross is deflected into Hradecky's grateful arms.

That's the half. Bayer have been relatively comfortable here and lead thanks to their one big chance, Victor Boniface's low shot evading a frustrated Kevin Trapp.

Strong Trapp

Buta gives away a free kick on the left flank. Hofmann floats in the free kick. Trapp comes off his line and fists away. That's better from the Eintracht keeper.

Eintracht in touch

Die Adler do look confident when in possession but their problem is that they are being strangled as an attacking force once they cross the halfway line. Alonso's men are working hard as a unit at both ends of the pitch.

Leverkusen omen?

The Werkself have won every game in which they have taken the lead this season. Plenty for Frankfurt to worry about here.
24'

Wirtz on a roll

The Germany international has brought up his sixth assist of the season in the Bundesliga (three of which have been provided to Boniface). He is now set up the same amount of goals as Boniface. Impressive partnership.

Home hero

As many as seven of Victor Boniface's nine goals this season have come at the BayArena. The striker's two away goals came in the form of a double Matchday 2 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
14'

Leverkusen lead!

Wirtz picks up possession in central midfield and feeds Boniface out wide. The Nigerian striker bounds forward with defenders backing off. Boniface's bending shot is low - and not all that powerful - and goes under Trapp's outstretched hand. The Eintracht keeper slams the turf in frustration, he knows he should have done better there.

Copy-cat formation?

Eintracht were also in European action during the week, Die Adler going down to Aberdeen but still managing to reach a tournament play-off thanks to their second-placed group finish. In terms of today, coach Dino Toppmöller looks likely to set his team up to mirror that of Leverkusen, with the visitors employing a double ten within a 3-4-2-1 system.

B04's team consistency

The Werkself may be showing eight changes from the side that began the midweek Europa League victory against Molde, but the 11 players who begin for B04 today form part of the starting line-up for the 10th time in 15 top-flight games this season.

Team news

Xabi Alonso makes just one change to the side that started last weekend's 1-1 draw in Stuttgart. Jonas Hofmann is in to replace Amine Adli, which means the hosts begin with their famous Florian Wirtz/Hofmann double 10. Die Adler, meanwhile, are forced into one change to the team that hammered Bayern Munich last week. Niels Nkounkou takes his spot in the side with Omar Marmoush missing out through suspension.

Alonso's view on Frankfurt

"It's a big game. We expect them to play like they did against Bayern, but we're not going to make any comparisons. It doesn't matter how they played against Bayern or Aberdeen. We need to focus on ourselves. It'll be an intense game. They play with high energy. We have to be ready."
camera-photo

Toppmöller's view on Leverkusen

"Bayer are extremely variable, have lots of tempo, game intelligence and a striker in Victor Boniface who holds up the ball well. They also have the best defence in the league. You can clearly see Xabi Alonso's mark on the team. We're looking forward to testing ourselves against the current best team in Germany after we beat the best team of recent years last week."
