Well now. Game on? Willi Orban's header from Leipzig's 11th corner is flapped into the net by Rönnow. The 'keeper might be disappointed with himself but Orban's header had just enough power to make it tricky to deal with from close range.

Where will Werner fit in?

Timo Werner, 26, spent four years at Leipzig between 2016 and 2020, registering 90 goals and 40 assists in 156 competitive appearances. He did his best work in 2019/20, scoring 28 Bundesliga goals - second only to Robert Lewandowski (34) that season. He scored on his debut, but can he repeat those numbers this term?

Magic triangle

In Christopher Nkunku, Timo Werner and Dani Olmo, RB Leipzig do have quite the strike force on their hands.

Still seeking the right blend

Leipzig are still without a win in all competitions so far this season following their Supercup loss to Bayern Munich and opening-day draw with VfB Stuttgart. There's been an experimental feel to Domenico Tedesco's team selection of late, with young Hugo Novoa starting back-to-back games at right wing-back and Benjamin Henrichs dropping into a central role in the absence of Konrad Laimer.
2:03

Timo's emphatic return

Timo Werner has 96 goals in 160 games for Leipzig, having marked his return to the Red Bull Arena with the opener against Cologne on Matchday 2. The Germany international fired in a Christopher Nkunku assist to break the deadlock, but the game turned on Dominik Szoboszlai's red card and ended 2-2.

And so may it continue...

Judging by their start to the new campaign, more of the same can be expected in the year ahead. Union are one of six unbeaten teams after the opening two rounds of fixtures, thanks to their 3-1 win over city rivals Hertha and last weekend's goalless draw with Mainz.

Union have come a long way

Union were given a rude introduction to life in the Bundesliga by Werner and Leipzig back in August 2019. Die Eisernen went down 4-0 in front of their own fans, but that debut loss has proved the exception rather than the rule. Urs Fischer's steely ensemble have become a top-flight force to be reckoned with, following up their 11th-placed finish in 2019/20 by qualifying for Europe in each of the past two seasons
