Kübler takes his frustrations out on a water bottle as he prepares to take his seat in the dugout. It's been a tough day at the office for Freiburg today - he knows they're better than this.

Pile on!

That's not the reason the spring-loaded Adeyemi was taken off, by the way.

Reyna adds a fifth!

Another beauty of a goal for Dortmund. Bynoe-Gittens teases the Freiburg defence, before shifting the ball inside. Guerreiro touches it off for Reyna on the edge of the area, and the American nonchalantly places a first-time finish into the corner. BVB have been superb today!

Bellingham and Reus get the hook, with three points surely in the bag. BVB also have a midweek DFB Cup game against Bochum to think about. Malen and Reyna are on. No wonder Terzic has been talking up this Dortmund bench as the club's "best in years".
69'

Pick that out!

Dortmund extend their lead. Guerreiro is the provider with a smart inside pass for Brandt. He drives at the Freiburg defence, before unleashing an unstoppable swerving drive into the bottom corner. The curve on that was really something!

Haller's moment

62'

Standing ovation

The Signal Iduna Park is on its feet as Haller makes way. He'll never forget this day. Moukoko and Bynoe-Gittens - who scored a goal apiece from the bench in Freiburg on Matchday 2 - are on, with the superb Adeyemi also given a breather. Sallai and Eggestein are the fresh Freiburg legs.

Title-winning form?

Haller scores for Dortmund!

What a moment! Haller sweeps over a cross that's put behind, just as Guerreiro was about to pull the trigger. Brandt's ensuing corner is cleared, but he keeps the chance alive by feeding Guerreiro. This time the cross is right on the money, and right onto the head of Haller. That's his first Bundesliga goal for Dortmund and first in competitive action following his recovery from testicular cancer, and he's done it on World Cancer Day. As the jubilant celebrations ease off, the Ivorian looks down the camera whilst pointing to the "f*** cancer" message on his boots. Incredible.

Dortmund retake the lead!

That didn't take long! BVB play a short corner across the box to Adeyemi. He lays it off to Bellingham, who back-heels it back into the Germany international's path. He wriggles, jiggles and digs out a shot that nestles into the far corner. Superb move, and a fine finish!

Haller watch

Haller and Kübler tangle in the box. Both go to ground, but there are no appeals from the BVB No.9, and the decision goes the way of Freiburg. You have to say, Haller really looks the business as the lone striker in this Dortmund team.

Into the book

Adeyemi, on the receiving end of a good few fouls already, is penalised for impeding Kübler. Grifo's right-wing free-kick is flicked on, but comes to nothing as Kyereh, off balance, blazes high and wide.

Deserved Dortmund lead!

Süle smashes in an effort from range that Flekken does really well to push behind. Brandt's near-post corner is only half cleared, with former Freiburg defender spinning on a sixpence to swipe in from the most acute of angles. It had been coming!

Another daft foul from a Freiburg perspective, this time from Kyereh on Adeyemi. Streich paces the touchline, his best-laid plans in tatters.

Dortmund with some lovely interchange involving Brandt and Wolf. Bellingham takes aim from 18 yards, but it's on his weaker left foot and he drags the ball wide.

Sillydillia!

Oh, no. So clumsy from the Freiburg youngster, who blocks off Adeyemi as the Dortmund forward threatened to go round him to the left of the box. Less than 90 seconds between those bookings. You have to fear for the visitors now...

Freiburg survive a couple of corners, but they cannot get a foothold in this game as Sildillia goes into the book for a foul on the effervescent Adeyemi.

Guerreir-no!

Really smart play from Dortmund as Wolf drives in off the right and finds Adeyemi in the box. He helps it on to Guerreiro, who lashes narrowly wide of the far post, with Flekken rooted to the spot. BVB mean business.

Proceed with caution

Unnecessary from Guerreiro. He goes straight through the back of Höler, who was going nowhere.

Bright start

Haller does really well with his back to goal, under pressure from a Freiburg shirt. He lays the ball off for Guerreiro, who threads a pass into the box for Brandt before a defender makes a crucial block.

The Dortmund fans are making a real noise as the players warm up. They haven't witnessed their team lose here since Matchday 2, when BVB conceded three late goals to Bremen.

Watch: The title race is on!

The five teams in pursuit of Bayern are all in action at 15:30 CET, but Dortmund and Freiburg are the only two in a direct match-up. As well as Union vs. Mainz, Leipzig go to Cologne and Frankfurt host Hertha Berlin. Depending on how things shake out, Bayern could end the day in third, ahead of their meeting with Wolfsburg on Sunday.

BVB followed up narrow wins over Augsburg (4-3) and Mainz (2-1) with a workmanlike 2-0 victory in Leverkusen. They're one of two teams still with a 100 percent record in 2023. Union Berlin, who host Mainz today, are the other.

More on those teams

With Salih Özcan suspended, Dortmund captain Marco Reus makes a timely return following illness and injury. Raphael Guerreiro is recalled at the expense of Julian Ryerson, while Sebastien Haller retains his place in the side as the lone striker. Freiburg bring in Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and top scorer Vincenzo Grifo. Maximilian Eggestein and Michael Gregoritsch drop to the bench.

The view from Freiburg

Despite Freiburg's poor recent form in Dortmund, Streich is confident his team can turn the tide. "It annoys me when I hear we have only picked up one point in 10 games away at Dortmund. There is always the chance to improve a statistic, and this weekend would be about time. But I'm not completely desperate".
camera-photo

The view from Dortmund

Terzic is under no illusions as to what awaits his time this weekend. He said ahead of the clash, “[Freiburg] are doing exceptionally well. They are solid and deal well with setbacks. We're expecting an intense game and we're ready."

Head-to-head

Dortmund are dominant at Signal Iduna Park against Freiburg, having not been beaten since 2001 on their own turf. Across the last five meetings between the two teams at any ground, though, they have been evenly matched, with 'Die Schwarzgelben' winning three to their opponents' two.
camera-photo

Freiburg still in the UEFA Champions League mix

For Freiburg, the new calendar year started disastrously with a 6-0 hammering at the hands of Wolfsburg. Manager Christian Streich, though, is not one to panic, and his side subsequently picked up a solid point against Eintracht Frankfurt before dispatching Augsburg. Last season, they narrowly missed out on a top-four spot, and they remain in contention to finally qualify for Europe's premier club competition.
camera-photo

Dortmund starting 2023 strong

Dortmund ended 2022 on a sour note, winning just one of their last four games in all competitions and losing the last two. However, the winter break appears to have revitalised Edin Terzic's men, who have triumphed in all three of their games at the start of this year. Two of those results, against Augsburg and Mainz, came thanks to late Gio Reyna strikes, while they defeated Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 in their last outing.

What's on the line

This a match between two of the Bundesliga's top sides. Dortmund are in fourth, while Freiburg are just one place behind in fifth, and both have an opportunity to draw level on points with league-leaders Bayern ahead of the Bavarians' clash with Wolfsburg on Sunday.
