FULL-TIME: HERTHA 1-1 BOCHUM

Ascacibar concedes a late corner, but Hertha force the Bochum players further and further away from Schwolow's goal, before the whistle sounds on a 1-1 draw. A fair result, it has to be said.

WIDE!

Pantovic picks out Bonga, who sends his header wide. What an introduction that would have been!

BONGA ON

Tarsis Bonga makes his Bundesliga debut, with the industrious Locadia making way.

NO END PRODUCT

Hertha have the chance to break with Lee, but he can't quite pull away in time and Bochum get men back to cover. The eventual cross is blocked. That just about sums up Hertha's display in the second half.
75'

FRESH LEGS

Holtmann's been a constant outlet and willing runner for Bochum, but he can't keep it up any longer, so on comes Antwi-Adjei. Richter and Bjorkan are on for the hosts, who've gone a bit flat in attack.
66'

JOVETIC!

Bochum have done a good job of keeping Jovetic quiet for the most part, but the Hertha striker gets a sniff here. He drives inside and bends goalwards, his shot catching a Bochum player on its way into the grateful hands of Riemann.

BOCHUM TAKING CHARGE

The visitors have been much improved since the start of the second half. Thomas Reis' double change has made all the difference.

LEE DEBUT

South Korea international winger Dongjun Lee, fresh from helping his country qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, makes his Bundesliga debut. The Hertha winter transfer window signing scored 11 times in 28 games for Ulsan Hyundai across the 2021 K League 1 season.

LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN?

That was Sebastian Polter's seventh Bundesliga goal of the current campagn. That makes him the second highest scoring German national in this season's division, after Serge Gnabry (10). Is it time Germany coach Hansi Flick takes a look? He could certainly use an out-and-out striker...

WE HAVE AN EQUALISER!

Bochum hit back with their first meaningful attempt on goal. Schwolow makes a right meal of his attempt to punch clear Locadia's stinging shot on the turn. Diving one way, he only succeeds in batting it the other and straight into the path of half-time substitute Sebastian Polter, who slots into the unguarded net. Hertha's No.1 must be wishing the ground would Schwolow him up after that.

HALF-TIME: HERTHA 1-0 BOCHUM

Belfodil's second Bundesliga goal of the season is the difference at half-time. Hertha have shaded proceedings, and will climb above Bochum into 11th, if they can hold out for a fifth win of the campaign. Bochum need to get the ball into Locadia, who's had precious little to feed on in the Hertha box.

SAFETY FIRST

Riemann has Jovetic running straight at him after being played into danger by a teammate on the edge of his own six-yard box. The Bochum stopper is taking no chances, and hoofs clear. That could have been embarrassing for the visiting defence.

SPECULATIVE SHOTS

The goal aside, we've yet to witness a clear-cut chance. Deflected efforts have been the order of the day, Maolida with the latest such attempt.

WING MEN

Bochum find space on the left-hand side on this occassion, with Leitsch. He drives a low cross into the danger zone, but Schwolow beats it clear.

HALF CHANCE

Bochum respond as Locadia connects with Holtmann's deflected cross, but Schwolow makes an easy save. Everything's going through Holtmann.

HERTHA LEAD!

And there it is. Hertha win a free-kick on the left-hand side, midway through the Bochum half. Jovetic swings it in towards the six-yard-box, where Belfodil glances a header into the far bottom corner. There's a quick VAR review for offside, but it stands.

HERTHA PROMISE

Maolida stands up his marker and tries to find Jovetic, who can't quite bring the pass under wraps. Hertha looking the more likely...
19'

THE BOCHUMER MESSI

Nice play from Holtmann out on the Bochum right. He holds the ball up, before whipping over a teasing back-post cross. Locadia's lurking, but he's crowded out and the flag goes up for offside anyway. He has a lovely left foot, Holtmann.
15'

ON THE VOLLEY!

Ascacibar connects with a cross, but sends his attempted volley comfortably over Riemann's goal. Hertha certainly the more active of the two sides. Bochum nowhere near as purposeful as they are on their own patch.
13'

MAN DOWN

Referee Marco Fritz goes down over a stray leg as Bochum attempt another counter. He oversaw Hertha's 3-2 win over Dortmund here, and Bochum's 2-0 triumph against Frankfurt.
7'

COUNTER THREAT

Bochum show signs of life in an attacking sense as Gerrit Holtmann drives forward and wins a corner with a deflected shot. The resultant delivery drifts harmlessly out of play, though.

HERTHA ASKING MORE QUESTIONS

Strong start from Hertha as Maolida forces a corner. It's Darida again with the shot in the ensuing melee, but a Bochum defender gets in the way.
4'

WARNING SHOT

Bochum only half clear a ball into the box for Maolida. Darida catches the loose clearance really well, but his shot from 18 yards is straight at Riemann.

LOCADIA CONFIDENT OF SURVIVAL

Eleventh-in-the-table Bochum are two points and as many places better off than Hertha. Thomas Reis' side kicked off 2022 with a 1-0 win over Wolfsburg, but have since lost to Mainz and drawn with Cologne. Recent signing Jürgen Locadia is, nevertheless, confident his side are on track to avoid an immediate return to the second tier. "We won't have any problems staying up," he told bundesliga.com.

BACK TO BASICS

After being comprehensively beaten by Bayern, Hertha head coach Tayfun Korkut has called on his charges to get the basics right: "winning tackles, running hard, staying patient, but being active."

BOCHUM TEAM NEWS

Bochum boss Thomas Reis makes three alternations to the team that started the 2-2 draw with Cologne. Captain Anthony Losilla is unavailable, so Robert Tesche will anchor the midfield. Cristian Gamboa gets the nod over Konstantinos Stafylidis at right-back, while Takuma Asano – a scorer from the bench last time out – starts for Eduard Löwen.

HERTHA TEAM NEWS

Tayfun Korkut makes five changes from the side comfortably beaten 4-1 at home by Bayern a fortnight ago. There’s a completely new central defensive partnership with Niklas Stark alongside new signing Marc-Oliver Kempf in a return to a back four. Stevan Jovetic is fit enough to start again up front, while Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Santiago Ascacibar also come in. Suat Serdar, Marco Richter and Linus Gechter drop to the bench. Dedryck Boyata and Marton Dardai aren’t in the squad, but January arrivals Fredrik Bjorkan and Dong-jun Lee are both among the subs.
